Voices #3

This is the experience of a Baptist preacher in Birmingham.

In response to some events that had transpired in his church, he felt pulled to follow a certain course of action. However, what he felt he should do was not something he wanted to do.

In such a situation, many of us, as Christians, decide to postpone the unpleasant action and to pray about it instead! And so he did. Over and over, stalling as long as possible.

Time went on and he continued feeling the annoying pull do the thing he didn’t want to do. The intrusive thoughts were bugging his conscience more and more.

Finally, as he was walking along a downtown sidewalk in central Birmingham, the nagging urgings were interfering with his tranquility. In exasperation, he blurted aloud, “God, get off my back!”

For the first and last time in his life, he heard an audible voice in response.  He said it was as clear and audible as if a human were standing next to him.  The voice said, “At last you’re being honest with me. Now we can get somewhere.”

Have you heard of Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is an African philosophy that says” I am who I am because of who we all are.” It has been referred to by politicians, discussed in the context of American foreign policy as a new type of Diplomacy, used as the name of a foundation and a group buying site, and chanted by the Boston Celtics at the end of a huddle.

Archbishop Desmund Tutu said “a person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self – assurance comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.”

Ubuntu is a social understanding of the ethic of reciprocity which most of us know as “The Golden Rule.” In literature the concept is developed in No Man is an Island, in film it was a major theme in John Boorman’s movie In My Country, and in the computer world it is used as the name of an intuitive operating system.

When the people of Egypt reclaimed their power from a brutal dictator recently I thought of Gandhi who used passive resistance in order to gain independence from British rule. Somewhere recently I heard the term “ubuntu work” which was described as “where two warriors drop their weapons and reach out.” I wrote that line on a small piece of paper and set it aside. Yesterday I found it again. In the midst of chaos and fear, the callous disregard for people in the pursuit of wealth by leaders in business and government is being challenged by the energy of ubuntu.

The potential for tremendous change is in the air as people remember who they are and what the essence of humanity really is. Our ability to rise above circumstance is phenomenal. We have certainly had plenty of opportunity to reach out in the midst of extreme weather and natural disasters, and examples of incredible selflessness continue to come to the surface.

If we, as human beings, can express through our actions a reverence for one another that doesn’t see divisions or boundaries, we can push the envelope of relationships to bring out the best in each other because what nourishes you on a spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical level nourishes me. It all works together, our individual parts responding to the whole, you and I, we and them moving in the love dance called God.

Our dignity lies within our divinity, and when we express ourselves as less than who we truly are we feel threatened, alone. Reaffirm your connection to God, find your balance in the center of the wheel, and dip your cup in the cool water of Spirit. We have much work to do! I love the way you plant your spade…

The Three P's

When we come into a dark room and turn on the lights, we expect them to illuminate the darkness. When it rains, we know there will be sunshine at a later time. When we sit in a chair, we have faith that it will support us. We take these things for granted, as they illustrate tangible results that makes having faith seem very easy.

The struggles with faith come when we can't see any results. We may have been praying for a long time about something, and still see nothing changing, as least in outward appearances. We get discouraged and are tempted to give up. We may wonder, at our lowest point, if God even hears us, and the urge to take matters into our own hands is hard to resist. But the outcome of anything in our lives is directly influenced by our thoughts. If we find ourselves thinking 'I don't see how this can work out', or other similar thoughts, we are hindering the very thing we are praying for to come to us. The very thing we do not want is drawn to us by the negative energy that was sent out.

We may think we don't have enough of this most important ingredient called faith to live a full and productive life. The truth is, faith is always at work. Where our energy is directed determines the results, positive or negative. Jesus said “. . .If you have faith (trust and confidence in God) even [so small] like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, be pulled up by the roots, and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you.” Luke 17:6 AMP. When we keep our thoughts and energy moving in a positive direction, the above scriptural promise is one we can embrace as true for us, for we can begin to see change happening, and more and more of what we have prayed for becomes visible.

There are so many scriptures about faith in the Bible, they are too numerous to list here, but each illustrates the fact it is a catalyst for answered prayer. It is a prerequisite for new doors to open, new experiences, handling changes in our lives, seeing the good that change can bring, and being able to take life in stride, knowing God is with us, guiding and ordering our footsteps and setting us on the right path. It is living with invisible means of support.

It takes the three P's to develop faith: patience, practice and perseverance. It's a lot like physical exercise. The more we exercise, the stronger and more fit we become. It is the same with faith. The more we use our faith muscles, the more easily we feel the Presence of God with us, and within us. More and more, we are able to let go and trust that whatever lies ahead of us can be handled, knowing our good is on the way. God has infinite ways to bless us, and the key to realizing these blessings is being grateful for the knowledge that God has taken care of us before, He is taking care of us now, and He will take care of us in the future. “Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see . . . Heb 11:1 AMP. “And whatsoever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive”. Matt 21:22 AMP.

In closing, do not worry about tomorrow for God is already there.

Love and blessings to all.

Announcements

The Church's website has become increasingly more difficult to properly update, so The FSC has purchased new software.  We are in the process of recreating the website with many new features and content, with an eye toward ease of updating. Each time we have redone it the website was greatly improved.. This is a large undertaking, and look for the roll-out of the new site sometime after this year.  Suggestions are appreciated, and will be considered.  Keep the website in prayer and ask that we are divinely inspired.

Biblical Spiritualism - Remote Viewing

A remote viewer has the ability to gather information about an object or person that is hidden from physical view and separated by distance.

John 1:43-51 KJV

The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. (44)Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. (45)Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. (46) And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. (47) Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! (48)Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. (49) Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. (50) Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. (51) And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

Laughs

Don't Be Afraid

One Sunday after church Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about.

Her daughter answered "Don't be scared, you'll get your quilts."

Needless to say, mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the Pastor stopped by for tea. Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about.

He said "Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming."

Little Johnny asked his grandma how old she was. Grandma answered, "39 and holding."

Johnny thought for a moment, and then said, "And how old would you be if you let go?"

No Charge

A little boy came home eating a big candy bar. His mother (remembering he had already spent all his allowance) asked him where he got it.

"I bought it at the store with the dollar you gave me," he said.

"But that dollar was for Sunday School," his mother replied.

"I know, Mom," he said, "but the Pastor met me at the door and got me in for free!"
