APCSS Construction Update
March 18, 2011 - Issue #3

Pile Installation

On March 23rd, three piles will be installed for testing purposes. Work will begin at 9 a.m and end by 5:30 p.m. The piles will be tested in the days following for load bearing capacity. If all tests pass, 28 additional piles will be installed by the end of April.

The soil conditions under the site are soft enough that a pile design is important for structural integrity of the building, but the soft soils will allow for minimal noise and vibration during placing of the piles. Each pile should take less than ½ day to install.

This test was originally schedule for March 7th and may be rescheduled again if there is inclement weather.

What is this new building?

Construction FAQs

How long will it take to do all the pile driving to support the new structure?

Testing will be done on Wednesday, March 23rd. Pile driving will occur for several weeks throughout April.  Work will be done from 9 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. to minimize noise impacts to our neighbors.

How tall will the building be and will it obstruct our views?

The building is a single-story and should not impact anyone's views.

There is not enough open space in Waikiki. How much room will this new building take up?

The current fence line is a construction safety area. The final fence line will only come out as far as absolutely necessary. Once construction is done there will still be ample open green space in the area.  We are also adding an ethno-botanical garden on the Kalakuau side of the campus for the community.
