March 2011: Spring = Transformation |
With all the tragedies and triumphs in the world recently, it seems we have entered a time of massive, unpredictable change: earthquakes in Japan and New Zealand, tsunami and nuclear dangers in Japan, people-power rebellions in the Middle East and North Africa. Who knows what's next....
These crises and challenges call upon us to give whatever support we can to those in need, and somehow, we have to take care of ourselves, too.
Spring is a huge time of transformation ~ hold onto your hats in this wild, windy time!
"I stuck my head out the window this morning
and spring kissed me bang in the face." ~ Langston Hughes |

Thanks to the great Barbara Blake at the Asheville Citizen-Times, Little Pearls and I were featured in the Sunday Conversation series on March 6, splashed across the front of the Living section, with a promo on top of the front page!
Little Pearls, big heart was the printed title. Here is the online article.
And thanks to the skillful, patient photographer John Fletcher, even the photos turned out well! It helps to have a cute dog and a sweet old cat for support, too.
The response has been SO gratifying that I've felt a bit overwhelmed ~ thank you!
My friend Tyrone Greenlee, who is central to our After the Storm compilation, was featured in the Sunday Conversation on February 20: Tyrone's article. Good company! |

Spotlight Pearl: Farmer to Farmer |
Little Pearls has made several Pearls and mini-documentaries to support people in times of crisis: Farmer to Farmer, Child to Child and After the Storm.
Farmer to Farmer was one of the earliest Little Pearls. Although it was created 10 years ago and it does not directly address any of the current crises, its message of compassion and support is powerful and relevant to now: Farmer to Farmer
Jamie Ager and his lamb Henry are pictured here. An 8 minute mini-documentary, part of this same project, is not yet on YouTube. |

We are creating at least two new Dog Pearls to include in the new DVD sampler, to be completed later this Spring. We need:
- More sponsors/donors to fund these Dog Pearls and
- Help logging time-coded Dog Pearls footage, a two-person job. If you can help with either, please call 828-658-9097 or e-mail me at linda@littlepearls.org
More reviews in the Great Nonprofits Arts Appreciation Campaign would keep us up in the ratings. We slipped from #7 to #13 in the national ranking when I stopped asking for new reviews. Please click on "Write a review" on Our Reviews page. |

“You've heard of public service spots? Little Pearls are public uplift spots. They're a breath of fresh perspective.” ~ Stephen S
As we adjust to Daylight Savings time, the birds are very active, the bulbs and flowers are popping out all over, and soon we will celebrate the Equinox.
While you do what you can to help the people and animals in the parts of our planet that are suffering, take some time to enjoy the shift of the seasons and show compassion to yourself, too. It's been a hard winter and we need the warmth and light of Spring!

Warmly,
