9th Annual Dining Out For Life benefitting WNCAP to Take Place on Thursday, April 28th
The Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) will join 55 other cities across the country and in Canada on Thursday, April 28, 2011, for their 9th annual Dining Out for Life® (DOFL) benefit. Over 100 restaurants are expected to take part in the event locally.
All money raised in WNC will help WNCAP continue its efforts to provide prevention education and outreach for men, women and youth at risk for HIV/AIDS, and supportive services for those already infected with HIV, in the 19 counties of Western North Carolina.
Although the event base is in Asheville, this year there will be participating restaurants in Arden, Black Mountain, Brevard, Flat Rock, Hendersonville, Maggie Valley, Saluda, Waynesville, Weaverville and Woodfin. Participating restaurants will generously donate 20% of their sales to WNCAP on Thursday, April 28th.
In 2010 this same event raised over $120,000.00 for AIDS prevention and care services in the WNC region. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, only 6.2% of revenue went towards expenses.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first Dining Out for Life event in Philadelphia in 1991 based on a concept created by a single volunteer. The event has expanded to 55 cities since then and has raised over 25 million dollars for local AIDS Service Agencies.
On April 28th, each participating restaurant will be part of an intense marketing campaign to increase diner traffic for breakfast, lunch and dinner that day and introduce people to new dining experiences.
"Dining Out for Life is a win-win-win event," says Pam Siekman, a WNCAP Board member and Dining Out for Life volunteer. "A win for diners who enjoy a great meal out. A win for the restaurant who can expect to be busier than usual as a result of the intense marketing campaign conducted by WNCAP to promote Dining Out for Life. And a win for the clients of WNCAP who will continue to benefit from the services offered."
“Volunteers and sponsors are key to executing an event of this magnitude” according to Harry Brown, veteran volunteer chairperson for Dining Out for Life. “This year the community has really stepped up in support of WNCAP and we have numerous sponsors and over 200 volunteers ready to greet diners on April 28th." Prestige Subaru is the Presenting Sponsor of Dining Out for Life this year.
At each participating restaurant, diners will be greeted by volunteer Ambassadors who will provide information about WNCAP and thank them for participating by offering an opportunity to win two round trip tickets on Southwest Airlines and other local prizes. Diners and Ambassadors will be invited to celebrate the day with an After Appreciation Party that evening at the Grove House in downtown Asheville.
