KORA AND SARITAH TO PERFORM AT 18TH ANNUAL SNWMV
The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is pleased to announce that Kora and Saritah will be performing at our 18th annual musical celebration.  SNWMF 2011 will be held at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds June 17th through 19th.  The fairgrounds is located in the heart of Anderson Valley (Boonville), just 30 minutes south west of Ukiah.
Kora are a New Zealand reggae, rock, dub & roots band, originally hailing from Whakatane. Four musical brothers from the Kora family, Laughton, Francis, Stuart and Brad, began playing together as a band in the early 1990s, winning the national Rockquest high school band competition in 1991 and the East Coast region Battle of the Bands three years running, earning a release on Tangata Records for their efforts.

South Korean born and raised in Western Australia, Saritah is a hard-working independent artist who has built a solid fan base across the country. Her releases to date include the debut album ‘Gratitude’, ‘These Days/You’re The One’ EP and most recently the extremely successful, inspiring and relevant album Ancient Forward.  On Ancient Forward, positivity and affirmations sit organically beside the serious. Driving rhythm sections and programmed beats give way to space and melody; earthy textures create a worldly yet intimate album that for the listener, is a joy to hear.

CANADIAN REGGAE SINGER GOES FOR GRAMMY WITH DEBUT ALBUM

Toronto: Canadian reggae singer Bonnie Casey departed the Lester B Pearson International Airport in Toronto for Kingston, Jamaica where she will begin work on her debut album which will be released later this year.
"I am hoping this first album will win me a Grammy award" a confident Casey said.
"I know it may sound kind of strange to be talking about Grammy awards even before I record the first song on the album but that is where my head is right now. To have my music recognized by an organization as important as the Grammy Awards is like the gold star that an artiste can achieve in this industry" she disclosed.
The Canadian reggae songstress said her management team is moving forward with a hectic production schedule for the new album so it can be completed in time to qualify for the Grammy Awards next year. Grammy winning producers Sly & Robbie, who produced such icons as Grace Jones, Joe Crocker, No Doubt, Gwen Guthrie, Carlos Santana, Sinead O'Connor, Matisyau, Simply Red, Shabba and Shaggy will head honcho the project. Dean Frazier who crafted the careers of Tarus Riley, Dwayne Stephenson and Luciano will also assist with production work on the disc. Her manager Copeland Forbes will also hand pick a few reggae singers/djs for her to collaborate with.
"I realize this is my first album but I feel I will be working with the best set of producers and artists in the world" she said.

FREDDIE MCGREGOR HEADLINING REGGAE IN THE DESERT IN LAS VEGAS

This last February 2011, Freddie McGregor was a top performer on the Raggamuffin Festivals in Long Beach and San Diego CA. McGregor is a classic reggae vocalist who travels with his own 5-piece band, three background vocalists and an engineer from Jamaica. This June / July, 2011 he is slated to tour North America with his full entourage.
One of reggae’s long-serving and most respected artists, Freddie McGregor is back with a new (ish) album. 'Freddie McGregor Sings Jamaican Classics' was originally released in the early 1990s, but this new two-disc compilation features digital versions of many historic Jamaican hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s, such as Love Has Found It’s Way and Let Him Try.
Never a man to sit still for too long, McGregor has also started work on another album that is due for release next year.

THE COUNTDOWN TO CHINO MCGREGOR'S DEBUT US ALBUM HAD SHIFTED INTO FULL GEAR

The album, titled Chino, will feature an ample array of musical genres. Chino says this was deliberate. "Growing up, I was influenced by a wide cross section of music, not only because of what I saw and listened to at the Big Ship studio, but I also grew up travelling a lot and going on tour with my father, so I was exposed to a lot of cultures and their music," he said.
"So that's going to be illustrated in this album. There are tracks there with jazz, reggae, dancehall, rock; you name it, it will be there," says the artiste who is known for his chart-toppers Protected, From Mawning, Ruff It Up and whose last Japan release Never Change topped the Japan Reggae iTunes chart.
Chino says, "This is is my first US album, so we are definitely coming hard and really thought outside the box for every single track. Most of the tracks were produced by Di Genius and we want to represent our music as best as possible on the international scene. So mark your calendars - May 24."

3 teaspoons brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
dash cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes (cooked rice needed)
Cooking Time: 35 minutes

Chef NOTES: I have been enjoying rice pudding in assorted variations for many years. I have different serving ideas check below.  I would consider this a healthy dessert, the less sugar used, the healthier it is.
My Servings Ideas: Serve in individual bowls with extra soy, coconut milk (Thai kitchen)  or rice milk to pour over the pudding and/or brown sugar to sprinkle on top. This may also be baked in individual bowls. Baking time will be reduced by about half. Different kinds of fruit may be used such as raisins, currents, dried cranberries, or chopped apricots or dates. This may also be served cold or at room temperature.

EVER-G : : CAN'T STEAL MY JOY
JAH LOVE: EVER-G's 5th album will be considered a classic as time moves on. It is jam packed with beautiful uplifting and "tug-at-your-heart" tunes. The Intro & Message add a surprising twist but do work well - great job EVER-G! EVER-G's voice is strong, commanding and oh, so sweet! The rhythms are tight and the guitar and mandolin add unique flavours to this album. Music lovers of all genres will enjoy this album. JAH LOVE "makes ME smile"!
JAH LOVE, the title song, is simply beautiful! Listen to it and tell me otherwise if you can! BONAFIDE LOVER is truly a beautiful love song. EVER-G and his special lady are very lucky to have inspired such love. Listen to the messages in all of EVER-G's songs (Poor People, Read U Bible, Fussing & Fighting). They make you think about your world while you are enjoying the beats. CAN'T STEAL MY JOY is a happy song that also instills a strength of character: "you can't steal my joy, no matter how you try.."
JAH LOVE is an album that most definitely belongs in your music collection!

SCREWDRIVER:
Roots, culture and reality artist Screwdriver is once again on the campaign trails advocating the universality and medicinal value of "Sweet Collie Weed'. Screwdriver is known from  Kingston to Japan, from Africa to the Netherlands, the USA and the Caribbean for his anthem song "Ganja Killer".
Now with the issue of "Sweet Collie Weed" - straight cut and remix version featuring Jr. Pinchers, Screwdriver once again takes control of the advocacy and is flying the banner for the benefit of Marijuana.
"Sweet Collie Weed" has just been released on iTunes  and to select physical distributors.

TAKE TIME TO PLAY
"If we fail to nourish our souls, they wither, and without soul, life ceases to have meaning.... The creative process shrivels in the absence of continual dialogue with the soul. And creativity is what makes life worth living."
