Several years ago, Bailee and her four kittens were brought to Moore Humane Society after being abandoned in a shed. Bailee was unable to stand when she arrived so we immediately took her to a local veternarian. What x-rays revealed was heartbreaking: Bailee had a bullet in her back and was paralyzed. Refusing to give up on Bailee and her kittens, we brought them back to the shelter where Bailee doted on her tiny kittens.
Weeks passed with no change until one morning we were greeted by Bailee miraculously standing on three legs! Unfortunately, Bailee's troubles were not over. Bailee was diagnosed and treated for cystitis. Then she contracted a severe upper respiratory infection and while recovering, she developed pyometritis (a bacterial infection that affects the uterus of cats and can be fatal) and had to have an emergency ovariohysterectomy.
With all that behind her, Bailee gradually grew stronger and began walking on all four legs. In February 2010, Bailee was adopted into a loving home and continues to thrive. We recently received another email from her family and wanted to share with you:
I am emailing you pictures of Bailee. The ones taken in the car are from one of our camping trips. She loves to go camping especially up in Boone! Bailee will sit by the screen by our bed in the camper for hours on end watching and listening to everything. If I don't have the screen for her she will scratch on the window until we open it! Skyer is our other cat...the one that looks like Dracula! Don't ask how I got that picture! By luck I guess but it is pretty funny looking! Sabrina is our 16 year old Boston Terrier. The other dog that is laying with Bailee on the pillow it Lillie Belle. She is a Shi Zsu and loves Bailee, Skyler and Sabrina.
Bailee is doing so well and is so happy! We all love her very much. She loves to play, especially in the middle of the night! She likes to run around the house and chase Skyler and Lillie. Skyler and Bailee are sweet on each other sometimes and will lick and rub noses.
Thank you to all of our members and supporters who made this incredibly happy ending possible! |
