Thank You Peabody Elementary School!

During the week of May 16 – 19, the entire third grade at Peabody Elementary School joined Creeks Division staff for field trips to Mission Creek at Oak Park.

The students learned about the recently completed Mission Creek Restoration at the Tallant Road Bridge, watersheds, storm drains, and common pollutants. The students also helped plant 200 native plants, and spotted a tiny rainbow trout under the bridge!

A big thank you to Ms. Craviotto for organizing the trips, participating teachers and aides, parents who came along, and the entire third grade class!

Report Pollution to Help Protect Local Creek and Ocean Water Quality

Many people don't realize that it is illegal to let polluted water enter the streets, storm drains, and creeks. The Creeks Division receives daily calls to its Enforcement Hotline reporting illegal storm water runoff or illegal dumping.

What are people calling to report? Common violations include dirty wash water from businesses, home improvement and construction site discharges (cement, plaster, dirt), dumping of paint and oil, and commercial auto washing.

Upon arriving on scene, the Code Enforcement Officer investigates the discharge and provides education on strategies to prevent polluted runoff from entering waterways. If violatons continue, fines are implemented.

To report pollution to the street, storm drain, or creek, call the Creeks Division's Enforcement Hotline at (805) 897-2688.
