FOUR-WORD

Firm & News Events

Can you believe that the New Year is only eight weeks away?  It hardly seems possible.  Yes, the holiday season is upon us, but before we turn to turkeys, dreidels, and Christmas trees, we have another important holiday to observe--Veterans Day.  In honor of our veterans, we wrote an article that was published in Livin' Out Loud magazine.  Click here to read our information about the little-known Veterans "Aid & Attendance" benefit.

FOUR-CAST

Interview with a Community Leader

You may know that Academy Award winner Colin Firth and Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt are in town shooting "Arthur Newman, Golf Pro".  And, of course, everybody is aware that Santa Claus will be coming to town on December 24th.  But have you heard all about the VA "Super Clinic" that's coming to Wilmington?

On September 19th, more than 150 veterans, friends and family members attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Wilmington Multi-Specialty Outpatient Clinic (see photo above).

I recently had the opportunity to speak with Ed Drohan, Public Affairs Officer at VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.  He shared many interesting facts about this long-anticipated clinic in the Wilmington area.  Click here to learn more.

FOUR-THOUGHT

Legal Tip

Did you know that your parents can legally pay you to care for them?

If properly structured,  your parents can legally pay you to care for them at either your home or theirs, without creating problems later down the road with eligibility for government benefits. On the flip side, if the arrangement is not properly structured, and all the supporting information is not in place, receiving payment for these same services will create severe penalties that will result in months and years of ineligibility for long term care government benefits.

Don’t try to save money on the front-end by trying to personally substantiate your care arrangement, as missteps may very well cost thousands of dollars in lost eligibility for long term care government benefits. Instead, make sure you discuss your situation with an experienced elder law attorney before making arrangements to move in with your parents or have them move in with you.

A POST-SCRIPT FOUR YOU!

JUST FOUR PAWS

JUST FOUR PAWS

Woof! Woof! "Speaking" of holidays, we just celebrated my least favorite holiday:  Howl-a-ween!  You see, thanks to my fellow four-pawed creatures, Halloween has gone to the dogs.  Take a look:

Thankfully, my mom/boss (Kelly) realizes that I have a much stronger sense of decorum than these crazy pooches.  When it comes to costumes and accessories, I take a simple, timeless and elegant approach.  Look for me in my dressy bow tie this holiday season....
