Evolution Tour 2012

Lovers Rock & Reality in the spirit of Gregory Isaacs

If there’s one man who can keep the legacy of Gregory Isaacs alive it’s Kevin Isaacs. They’re cut from the same cloth - Kevin possesses his father’s smooth tone of voice, making him a worthy successor to The Cool Ruler. ‘Keep on doing it, don’t give up’, is what his father told him, and that’s exactly what he’s done.

Born in 1979 in Jamaica, Kevin wrote his first song at the age of thirteen. He recorded and toured with his father, established himself as an independent producer, and even set up his own record label. A versatile artist, Kevin has written and recorded numerous songs, gaining recognition in Jamaica, America and throughout Europe. His slogan ‘Love can conquer war’ reflects his strong roots in a new wave of unity and reggae consciousness.

Shortly after Gregory died, Kevin discovered Tallawah on YouTube, playing a memorial concert in honour of his father. The band immediately caught his attention – never before had he heard a group that reproduced and mixed the styles of Gregory’s various backing bands so well. The Roots Radics, Sly & Robbie, Mafia & Fluxy and Steely & Clevie – Tallawah captures the essence of all those great masters of reggaemusic. He soon figured that this was the band he’d been looking for, and teamed up with Tallawah’s producer Patrick Ramdat. Together they organised a series of highly successful shows, held in June 2011. It proved a fertile partnership, culminating in a new album, due for release in October 2011. The title – Evolution - expresses Kevin’s desire to continue his father’s work and philosophy. The Evolution Tour 2012 kicks off in June 2012 with a live show that includes many famous Gregory songs as well as some unpublished work. Past, present and future - Kevin’s own repertoire will also be covered.

Combined with the vocal perfection and sweet melody of Tallawah’s Lady Joan, Sista Benji and talented musicians, the stage looks set for an unforgettable experience that will keep Gregory’s legacy alive. A trip for the ear and a feast for the eye!

Elements of dub stand at the forefront of Iration’s sound. Joe and Adam’s rhythmic drum and bass are mixed with Micah and Catlin’s rocking guitars and Cayson’s distinctive keyboard/synth. The music is dubbed by King to create Iration’s signature sound. Three lead vocalists in Catlin, Kai and Micah give each song its own unique feeling.Iration has performed with acts such as Pepper, Steel Pulse, Don Carlos, The Expendables, Yellowman, Mikey Dread, Natural Vibrations and Ooklah the Moc.

Trevor Hall has worked with such producers as John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews) and The Laboriel Brothers (Sting, Paul McCartney), has appeared at the famous Lollapalooza festival and has toured with such acts as Stevie Nicks, Jason Mraz, The Wailers, and Ben Harper. Trevor is a musician’s musician, as exemplified by Colbie Caillat who claims "Trevor has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard."

Born in South Carolina and raised in California, Trevor Hall developed an affinity for summery acoustic music, from the beachside ambiance of Jack Johnson to the leisurely stroll of Bob Marley. Having spent his teenage years at a boarding school for the arts, Hall dedicated his life to music upon his high-school graduation. He self-released Lace Up Your Shoes in 2004; two years later, the teenaged Hall prepared for his major-label debut with Geffen Records. The Rascals Have Returned, an introductory EP produced by John Alagía, featured a soothing mix of reggae, folk, and roots rock.

Hall’s previous recordings have appeared in numerous films and television shows including his recording, “Other Ways,” which was in the Shrek the Third feature and soundtrack. Trevor also covered the Band’s “Life is a Carnival” for the star-studded tribute album, Endless Highway: The Music of the Band.

STAY FLY WITH MEGA BANTON

MEGA BANTON has maintained a deep affection for music as long as he can remember, born Garth Alexander Williams and grew up in city of Portmore located in St Catherine outside of the capital of Kingston.  Mega Banton in his early youth would crooned the lyrics and sounds of his favorite artists such as Dennis Brown, Yellow man and Alton Ellis over his father's stereo system; he would also performed these songs at school concert, and at local neighborhood street party.  Mega Banton would eventually start writing his own songs and developing his own lyrical style while attending the  prestigious ST. ANDREW TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.  Mega Banton skills and reputation grew as a talented young deejay in the community.  Mega Banton began performing at local stage shows which caught the attentions of veteran Deejay in the reggae industry such as RICKY GENERAL; who loved the young artist drive and ambition and decided to introduced him to the notorious reggae mogul/ producer Jack Scorpio.

While at recording sessions at the Black Scorpio labeled Mega earned a reputation for his intense delivery and provocative vocal flare.  Mega swift hard-hitting lyrical delivery distinguished him from among the emerging deejays with songs that epitomized the dance hall era of the early 90s.  He began to record tracks like 'GIVE IT A EASE" which is the first song he ever recorded.  The song echoed the harsh reality of Jamaica lifestyle which most of the people and community lived in daily and the violence that surrounded them; his song gave hope to the massive with a positive message.  In 1993 Mega Banton released his debut album, FIRST POSITION, on VP records with hit singles such as  NAME A MENTION, GLAMOROUS, and SO WI STAY.  The single "SOUND BOY KILLING" on the same album charted on the US BILLBOARD charts and propelled Mega Banton career to international status; which led to a record deal with SONY RECORDS and produced the album 1,000,000 MEGA WATTS in 1996.

Mega  have toured extensively with the Shocking Vibes Crew such as Beenie Man, and Tanto Metro and Devonte. The popular street anthems MONEY INA MI POCKET and  PON DI CORNER, revived Mega Banton status as one of Jamaica's most respected deejays in the business; these songs stayed on the Reggae charts in Jamaica and the United States for several months in 2003.  Mega Banton popular underground singles such as RISE IT, GIMMI DEM and GARISON  featuring  Mr. Lex, have kept Mega  Banton name buzzing in the streets, on the charts, in the clubs, and on top of his game in the reggae dance hall areana; The singles GIMMI DEM and GARRISON were released on Gargamel Records and produced by one of Mega Banton idol and musical inspiration Buju Banton.  Mega has been limited his appearance on various Dancehall  Rhythms in the last few years, as he chooses rhythms that fits his unique style, voice and swag;while he still manages to preserve his untouchable style and status which can be heard on his latest song and video "Stay Fly" on the Basik Instink Riddim by Taranchyla and dj Froggy. http://youtu.be/jD7eephQpuQ

Mega Banton has maintained a herbal and meditation vibes and following in Northern California and the Bay Area with songs such as 'I'm so High", "Fly Away" and "Get High" which he performed on the Annual Smoke Tree Tour.  Mega Banton has record songs with reggae greats such as Barrington Levy, Micheal Rose, Leroy Smart, Lady Saw, Steel Pulse, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Mr. Lex, Cecile, Ricky General and Delly Ranks.  Today Mega Banton still remain humble, focus and determine to take over the dancehall scene and radio waves.  Mega Banton is currently in the studio in Jamaica working on new his album and a single to be drop in 2012.  Mega Banton in recent years have been working and recording in the studios with top name producers and labels in the reggae industry in Jamaica such as dance hall producer NotNice, Jam 2, Steely and Cleevie, Baby G, King Jammy, John John, Equanox, Braeton Connection and Free Willy.

Mega  Banton also known as Megah Di Megaladon, or Megah is currently under the management of TWINKLEEK  MUSIC GROUP / KNAK DEM OUT PRODUCTION   who is based in Oakland California  and is in the final stages of completion of his new album, THUG POETRY to be released in the summer of 2012.  The new album features a combination of Mega's usual hardcore dancehall edge with an added touch of hip-hop with a variety of tunes and topics such as DUPPY SHOW, MONEY VENTURE, EYES ON  ME & CRIMINAL.  Fans can look out for songs, singles and the upcoming album release on Mega Banton official Facebook page; to listen and purchase Mega Banton songs go to ReverbNation/Mega Banton.  Mega Banton current tracks will also be featured on an upcoming mix cd called "ENEMIES ON DEADLY GROUND", which will be out in the Spring of 2012.  Mega Banton has proved his position as an undeniable force and legend in the dance hall scene which others follows artist uses as a guide.; For booking information contact Postman Ali at (510)759-1091 or at www.knakdemout.com

British Bob Marley documentary electrifies at Berlin film festival

BERLIN - A hotly awaited documentary on Bob Marley has premiered to cheers at the Berlin film festival, tracking his journey from bullied biracial Jamaican boy to reggae superstar.

"Marley" by Oscar-winning Scottish film-maker Kevin Macdonald is a two-and-half-hour-long tribute to a child of the Kingston ghettos who made reggae a global phenomenon by the sheer force of his talent and charisma.

"For me, Bob is really one of the greatest cultural figures of 20th century. I don't think anyone in popular music has had the same lasting impact that he has," Macdonald, 44, told reporters after a rapturously received screening.

"Anywhere you go in the world, you find his image, his music, his wisdom -- literally anywhere you go. So it's nice to be a small part of that and hopefully to bring to people around the world a sense of who this man was as a human being, not just as the legend, not just as the great icon."

Macdonald bagged an Academy Award for his 1999 documentary "One Day in September" and Britain's BAFTA for his 2006 feature about Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, "The Last King of Scotland".

"Marley" features around 50 of his songs, including rare early recordings and electrifying concert outtakes of hits with his band the Wailers such as "Jammin", "Get Up, Stand Up", "No Woman, No Cry" and a duet of "I Shot the  Sheriff" with Stevie Wonder, who helped him break into the US market.

The film maintains a strict chronological approach, telling of his 1940s childhood of grinding poverty in the mountains of Jamaica after his black mother is abandoned by his white father, Captain Norval Marley.

Macdonald tracks down a former teacher and white and black half-siblings who describe an intelligent, driven, disciplined boy who suffered as an ostracised "half-breed".

In a moving passage, Macdonald plays Marley's song "Corner Stone" for two of the half-siblings as they discuss the impact of his father's rejection on his life and work.

Bunny Wailer, one of the few surviving members of Marley's band, also appears in the film, still resplendent in his rasta cap and dreadlocks, and tells of their early work with fellow reggae great Peter Tosh for which they earned "three pounds a week".

Rita, his widow and backup singer, speaks affectionately about Marley despite his countless affairs and describes how she would dispense with groupies from his dressing room for him when he needed time to unwind with a spliff and his guitar.

"We never fought about women," she says.

Rohan Marley, one of the singer's 11 children by seven women, came to Berlin for the premiere.

He said he grew up sharing his father with the world and recounted a story from childhood in which the star gave him and his brother money and told them to buy ice cream for the Kingston youngsters who would mass at the gates of their sprawling house.

"My father told us this: 'You're inside the gates, you're OK. I'm here for the ones outside the gates'," he said.

"Growing up we knew that all children belong to him. We may call him Daddy but we're just one of the many, you know," said Rohan, who bears a strong resemblance to his father, with a smile.

A close friend of Marley's and his art director during the 1970s and early 1980s, Neville Garrick, told reporters that the singer would "chew out" the band members after a show if he heard they had hit a wrong note.

"What made him different from most artists was that he appreciated his audience," he said. "He always did his best... he was a very hard taskmaster --he was a real perfectionist."

The film also traces the impact of Jamaica's rampant political violence, in which Marley was once shot during a live performance, the singer's Rastafarian beliefs and attachment to Africa -- he sang at Robert Mugabe's inauguration in Zimbabwe in 1980 -- and his attempts to battle cancer before his death at 36.

A rousing sequence runs during the final credits in which fans across Asia, Africa, America and Europe keep the Marley legend alive, singing along to his songs.

The Berlin film festival runs until Sunday.

About Historic Virginia Key Beach Park:Virginia Key Beach, once accessible only by boat, was established in 1945. In 1982 the City of Miami closed the park and it remained shuttered until the Grand Re-Opening in 2008 when local citizens formed the Virginia Key Beach Park Task Force in response to plans for private development of the property. In 2002, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Come visit our beautifully renovated venues which celebrate the distinct cultural, recreational and ecological past of this tropical paradise.

The 9 Mile Music Festival has chosen this Historic location as the venue for 19th Annual 9 Mile Music Festival. This decision was made largely because this venue offers what the fans want; a bigger venue, easier parking and longer hours to enjoy the reggae music.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call?..
