"Saving Moore Animals"

                   Cat Scratch Fever!

                         May 2012

Pooch of the Month: Little Lacey

Meet Lacey, an intelligent and active Jack Russell terrier mix with a sweet and devoted disposition.  While Lacey's got a lot of spunk and loves investigating all of the exciting smells of the great outdoors, she doesn't seem as vigorous or get overly excited like some members of her breed. That's one of the reasons we selected her from the Animal Center, where she was surrendered after her original owner passed away.  Lacey did test positive for heartworm, but she was fortunate enough to stay with a wonderful foster family during her treatment. Lacey is now at the Shelter and will be going to the vet next week for her final checkup.  She'll be a great match for a family that can give her the exercise she needs and the attention she deserves.

Kitty of the Month:  Handsome Hussan

Hussan, a neutered adult Siamese mix, was brought to Moore Humane Society as a stray.  He is one gorgeous kitty - tall, long, and slender with piercing blue eyes and traditional seal point coloring.  Hussan is exceptionally loving and affectionate with people, and he often follows our staff and volunteers around the cat room while we are working. Though fascinated with humans, Hussan doesn't seem to enjoy the company of other cats. Come out and meet this beautiful boy soon. He will make a delightful and devoted addition to a family where he can be the center of attention.  And, really, what cat could want more?

The Cinco de Mayo Costume Pooch Parade: A Huge Success!!!

Little Chihuahua Pedro served as mascot for the First Cinco de Mayo Pooch Parade! Alumni Photo Gallery

We're always interested in hearing from folks who have adopted our pooches and kitties, providing them with  "fur-ever" homes!  We'd like to make this a regular feature of the e-newsletter, posting a few photos each month, so keep those updates coming!  (If you'd like us to post the story of your adopted furry family member, please send your photo as a jpeg file to diane@moorehumane.org .)

Coco, formerly known as Mootsie at the Shelter, has settled in with her new family... and is enjoying all of the amenities... cat toys, big comfy beds, and lots of attention!

Platinum, now known as Lucy, is sitting pretty with her new best friend, Levi!  Although she's claimed her spot on the couch, she doesn't mind sharing space...although it does look like more than half of the acreage is reserved for the dogs... note how the human is perched on the edge of the cushion!

Alexandra, formerly known as Emma, was adopted by Volunteer Melissa in late 2011.  We admit to being a tad surprised... Melissa is known as an expert on felines... but one look at this cute face and she was won over!  Alexandra (Alex for short) is said to be fearless, approaching dogs more than five times her size and weight!  And, rumor has it that Alex has Melissa wrapped around her little dew claw!

This is Daisy Duke, formerly known as Snooky, who was adopted in November 2011.  While she posed prettily for her photo, the minute the camera was put away, she clawed at her pink bow, tossing it aside.  Maybe Daisy Duke is really a tomboy???  We hear from her owners that her idea of playing with her Shih Tzu brother, Brody, is to grab his fluffy tail and pull him around!   Her owners tell us that she loves to eat, has learned her manners, and loves to watch TV... we wonder which shows...

After consulting with the other cats and kittens, Jewel compiled the Summer Wish List.  "Given the time of year, we are very conscious of our figures.  I keep telling everyone, 'lay off the high carb food and get some exercise!'  Fortunately, most of the felines here have kept active over the winter months, participating in the Zumba for Kitties class I introduced!"
