INCTR's Governing Council and Annual General Meeting 2012


The Annual General Meeting and a meeting of the INCTR Governing Council took place in Brussels on Friday, March 30th and Saturday, March 31st. These meetings occurred at the time of an important milestone in INCTR’s development, since after 12 years of support, which allowed INCTR to initiate its activities and develop its branches and network of collaborating units across the world, INCTR and NCI will develop a new relationship in which INCTR will no longer be financially dependent upon NCI, but will become a partner of NCI’s recently established Center for Global Health. Advanced Course in Pediatric Palliative Care, MNJ Institute of Oncology, Hyderabad, India



MNJ Institute of Oncology, in collaboration with the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR) and the Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society, Hyderabad, organized a two day national workshop on Pediatric Palliative Care on 6th and 7th February 2012. The course provided opportunities for physicians and nurses providing palliative care to learn how to deal with the special needs of children with life-limiting illnesses, and their families. Release of the Morphine Manifesto


Millions of people are in needless pain because simple inexpensive medication is denied to them.


In conjunction with World Cancer Day 2012 (February 4th, 2012), Pallium India, the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC), and the Pain & Policy Studies Group / WHO Collaborating Center at the University of Wisconsin, have released a Morphine Manifesto. Signed by leading organizations and foundations from around the world, including INCTR, and covering cancer pain management, and hospice & palliative care organizations, this Manifesto calls for an end to the unethical practice of promoting access to expensive opioid analgesics without also making available low cost immediate release oral morphine. The French version of the INCTR Palliative Care handbook


L’Alliance Mondiale contre le Cancer (AMCC), the French branch of the International Network for Cancer Research and Treatment (INCTR), has recently finalized the translation of the "INCTR Palliative Care Handbook" into French. Thanks to Mrs Sabine Perrier-Bonnet, funds were obtained from The Open Society Foundation, which generously covered the cost of the lay-out and the printing of the French translation. The translation itself was done on a voluntary basis by Dr. Marie-Christine Latanowski (France), a professional palliative care specialist. Read More



International Women's Week


On March 10th, 2012, as part of our activities relating to International Women’s Week, NNCTR organised the launch of a research study entitled " A Study on the Challenges of Introduction and Management of HPV Vaccine in Nepal," which is to be jointly undertaken by NNCTR / INCTR and the Center for Research on Environmental Health and Population Activities (CREHPA) and funded by PATH, USA. The launch was a part of NNCTR’s advocacy for incorporating HPV Vaccination into the National Immunization program. Read More

INCTR's Appeal to Cure 250 Children with Burkitt Lymphoma in Africa on GlobalGiving

INCTR's project, "Cure 250 Children with Burkitt Lymphoma in Africa" went live on GlobalGiving in December, 2011. Since that time, INCTR has raised over $7,525 through the appeal. Please help us to reach our target of $50,000 so that more children with this curable cancer can have access to the care and services they need by donating now. Virginia LeBaron is a PhD candidate with the University of Utah College of Nursing, USA, who is presently conducting research for this degree at the MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Center (MNJ) in Hyderabad, India.  Her research project is entitled, “Exploring the relationship between nurse moral distress and cancer pain management: An ethnography of oncology palliative care nurses in India.” Virginia’s connection with MNJ began with her volunteer work with the INCTR as a palliative care nurse consultant. Read More
