Final Call for Papers
Evolving Motherhood Conference
MAY 17, 18, 19, 2012
New York City, USA
Deadline for Submissions April 30
The Evolving Motherhood Conference asks: How has the role of mother evolved over time? How have our ways of conceptualizing motherhood changed? This conference welcomes a variety of disciplinary and media approaches to these questions, so that our multiple lenses might begin to provide critical insights into human behavior, historical perspectives, narratives, and practices. We encourage submissions that draw direct links between theory or research findings and practical approaches relevant to issues that mothers face in the world today. We hope to provide new ideas and approaches for tackling issues of concern relating to mothers and others who fill a care giving role. Examples include, but are not limited to: histories of motherhood, the changing economics of motherhood, public policies and their effect on care giving, maternal activism, cross-cultural perspectives on the meanings of motherhood, literary representations of the changing figure of the mother, public health perspectives on motherhood and pregnancy.
We welcome submissions from scholars, students, activists, artists, community agencies, service providers, journalists, mothers and others who work or research in this area. Cross-cultural, historical, and comparative work is encouraged. We encourage a variety of types of submissions including academic papers from all disciplines, workshops, creative submissions, performances, storytelling, visual arts, film, music, audio and other alternative formats.
