The Medicine Wheel of Plant Uses begins in the East, place of the rising sun, place of dawning and beginnings, place of birth. I define the plants of the east as: Plants that, by themselves, sustain life when eaten daily in any amount. The only plants that fit this definition are the seeds of certain grasses. Grain alone, unlike all other foods, and without assistance, is enough to sustain us. Though we wish not to live by "bread alone," much of the world does get along eating nothing but a bowl of rice or millet a day. Grain supplies sweet, bland carbohydrates, some needed proteins (though incomplete), some vitamins, and some minerals, and some plant hormones (lignans, which are powerfully anti-cancer).

 Dream Interpretation

Try to keep things simple when analyzing a dream - or any other aspect of your life for that matter. Less is always more. Dreams tend to fall into four categories: retrocognitive (past life); other life (future life); prophetic (a warning or a blessing to come which is inspirational, factual or precognitive) or housekeeping (rehashing the day's events, digestive upset, something on TV or consumption of alcohol). Dreams that fall into the prophetic category are usually worth exploring; housekeeping dreams should be discounted.

 The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and their Vedic Link

Virtually nothing seems to be known about Patanjali the man. In some stories he is the son of Brahman, in others he is born on Mount Meru. In India, Mount Meru is the sacred mountain. It is said to be 350,000 miles in size, and is surrounded by 7 continents. Obviously this is a reference to the spinal column and the nadis (streams of energy) of the body, which total 350,000. The 7 continents are a reference to the primary chakas. He is believed to have written the text Mahabhasya which is a commentary on Panini laws of Sanskrit grammar, which would clearly indicate that Patanjali was an important Vedic Grammarian. In India, there is a growing opinion that he also wrote under the name Charaka, and was responsible for the Charaka Samhita the major Ayurvedic text. As Ayurveda is an upaveda this provides a powerful link between Patanjali and the Vedic system as well.
