Hope in Dark Times

We all know the economic hardship of recent years, and now, a super storm with a gentle name has caused so much more suffering.  We escaped the brunt of the storm in Western NC, but there is darkness here, too, as daylight fades with autumn and something scary looms, at least in our home.

More about that later ~ first, some lighter news in a short newsletter....

"Be refreshed in the darkness.  Doesn't a moment of silence restore beauty to the voice?" ~ Rumi, from "The Pearl of the Heart"

Asheville International Children's Film Festival, Nov. 2-11

This wonderful children's film festival, a treat for both children AND adults, is here!  You'll see creative, unusual films you won't see anywhere else.

Check out the films, schedule and venues and get your tickets here at AICFF

Little Pearls is proud to have been the non-profit umbrella organization for this great festival, now in its 4th year.

Founder Tim Arem has served on our board and is the creative force behind T-Bone Productions, whose projects include AICFF, Asheville Father’s Fest, T-Bone’s Radio Active Kids, Asheville Youth Film Academy and Asheville Flyer For Kids.  Go, Tim!

Spotlight Pearl: Our Children Ask the World of Us

Thankfully, our extremely expensive, negative US election is coming to a close soon.  If you haven't yet voted, please consider what your choice means for future generations.  It is not all about us.

Our Children Ask the World of Us features our older granddaughter Kayla, whose birth 11 years ago certainly drove home, for me, the importance of ensuring a world that nurtures all children.

Learn more about this Pearl.

Kayla and her little sister Kira are thriving now.  I wish the same for the children you love, and all the children of the world that we will never meet.

We owe them the best we can give them.

Juggling Little Pearls & Life

Since our August Celebration, I have not been able to do much with Little Pearls.

My husband Jim's brain cancer symptoms have gotten much worse.  We now know he has a new tumor and some other areas of concern.  Tomorrow morning, November 2, he has "cyber knife" radiation on the new tumor and then will need a new kind of chemotherapy.  If you want to keep up with Jim's journey, check his Journal updates, which are often funny, at Caring Bridge.  We hope there will be good news soon.

Speaking of hope, this is the best time of year for non-profits to find support for their work.  We have hoped to raise funds to make a new Little Pearl, chosen from our Pearl Dreams.  It has been very hard for me to focus on this, so if you want to help, please:

Warmly, with gratitude
