The newest Angel
We have new folks downstairs from our cafe!  A new yoga studio has opened up and they have THE cutest little girl whose name is India.  She is amazingly articulate for a three year-old and is quite the little delight.

Do stop by to explore their yoga class offerings.  I must say they have done a beautiful job transforming what used to be a dark room.  Makes me want to start up with yoga again!  It's called go yoga (goyogainc.com)  JP and Cassie are the sweet operators, and the parents of this darling.

Extended hours - and, soon, music!
We've decided to stay open later.  We're now here and ready to help you until 8pm, Monday through Friday.  Do stop in on your way to the theatre or the movies or, well, just because you can!  We make Simple Supper foods every day so even if you've come for lunch, you can come back and have dinner with us and have completely different foods.

AND, starting in the New Year, we will be having live music here, most probably on Thursdays.  If you know anyone who is looking for a new gig, tell 'em to give us a shout.  Leslie is heading up this endeavor and can be reached at Leslie@laureysyum.com

We'll keep you posted on the unfolding of Music in the Cafe.

Julie, our Christmas Elf
Sweet Julie, our delivery gal, is blossoming here.  No longer constricted to our "uniform" (she feels she's able to better perform her duties if she is free to express herself in her own outfits) she comes to work decked and ready.  This was her selection late last week.  Very festive, yes?

Keeping watch by day (and night)
Tye, my sweet companion, is a fine partner, and occasionally displays her guard dog prowess.  Here she is guarding (aka laying on top of) an assortment of gifts and treats.  You NEVER know who is going to try to snatch them off my bed!

I love this dog.

A word or two from Laurey
December 23, 2012

Hiya hiya,

Well, it is a bustling, gorgeous day here in the Ville of Ashe today. Just in time, the weather turned chilly, we had a little bit of snow to remind us of winter (but not enough to mess with our deliveries!) I cooked my 21st Christmas dinner for my friends in Brevard last night and drove home in the wind, admiring my favorite Christmas light displays on the way. I must say that the FINEST display is in my very own neighborhood, on Boyds Chapel Road. The picture of the lights in today’s newsletter is about 1/20th of that display. It is really worth driving to see. Trust me!

Yesterday, when I went home to change for the party, I found the best Christmas present on my front door step. The galleys of my book! Actually they call it “first pages” but, whatever the lingo, it was a thrill to tear into the envelope and take 2 minutes to glance inside. What a beautiful little book this is going to be! Johnny and Charlotte’s pictures are a delight and I noted some great snaps of me and my bees. They will be so proud of this book!!!! I can’t wait to spend more time with it and to share it with you in a few months! (Plan on it for Christmas presents next year, okay?)

My sister is coming soon. Lewis the Jack Russell “Terrorist” is coming too, as is my sister’s very handy beau. His meditation practice involves fixing something every day. I have been saving things for him to fix…Tra la! My Asheville sister will be here, of course. I’m going to Charleston for a couple of days and plan to bring home some fresh seafoods for our Christmas dinner. I’m feeling so much better and actually feel energized at the idea of cooking again. It’s been awhile and I’m happy to be on the upswing, just in time for my family’s gathering.

Planning on The JOYride for Livestrong at the YMCA of WNC is coming along. We have good beginning framework of visionaries and doers. The ride will be on Saturday, May 18th. We’ll have a fun ride for kids and two other rides: one, a moderate 20 miler and the other, a metric Century – 63 miles. This is a good time to start getting ready for a summer of rides, and will, I hope, raise enough money to pay for Livestrong at the YMCA of WNC programming for 100 people. If you’d like to be actively involved (i.e. help put this ride together) join us on Friday, January 11 at 8:30 am here at the shop for our next planning meeting.

And now I need to go wrap presents and pick up a few last minute gifts too. It really is feeling like Christmas. My little tree is up and has some little silver stars on it – just enough this year. My house is nearly clean enough for my family’s visit but running the vacuum once more won’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

I do hope you have a lovely few days. We’ll be closed on Christmas and the day after. We’ll be back on Thursday and will look forward to hearing about your celebrations.

For now – Merry Christmas to you. I’m so happy we have crossed the threshold and that the light is now starting to reappear. Blessings to you, your friends, your family, your pets, and also to everyone that none of us know.

Until next week – ciao,
Xo,
Laurey

Who needs hair anyway!
Nope - still no hair.  Ah well.  I am getting a lot of use out of my growing hat collection.  And I got to play with my new bubbles the other night.  Festive and fun and silly and, well, why be so serious all the time?  I am on a much-needed treatment break for the holidays and I am energetic and happy and confident and ever so grateful for all of your thoughts and prayers!
