The Reggae Festival Guide with .........

Ok, so I'm not famous like some of your other people showing their Guide, but I do have an old copy of the Reggae Festival Guide from 1999 with Burning Spear on the cover. That same year, I saw Spear a few times including Reggae on the Rocks in Morrison, CO. If you look over my left should you will see a photo of Spear that I took at Red Rocks. The cover of Reggae Festival Guide is signed by Burning Spear himself if you look closely. That was an AMAZING line up that year with Long Beach Dub Allstars, Justin Hinds, Heavyweight Dub Champion, John Brown's Body, Abyssinians, Jimmy Cliff, Andrew Tosh, Reggae Cowboys (who we partied with at our hotel), the Black Eyed Peas (when they actually made music) and, of course, Spear! Hope you enjoy!

The Wailers Performing Survival and all their hits

Saturday, February 2nd, 2013 - Knitting Factory Concert House - Reno, NV

Doors – 7:30pm  Show – 8:30pm,  Tickets on available at the Cal-Neva Casino Main Cashier Case 24-hours a day, at Recycled Records, or by calling 877-4-FLY-TIX (435-9849) and online at www.Ticketfly.com orwww.KnittingFactory.com

Tickets: $20.00 General Admission Standing - $46.00 Reserved Box Seat

Containing what is considered Bob Marley and the Wailers’ most defiant and politically charged statement, Survival concerns itself with the expressed solidarity of not only Africa, but of humanity at large. The album was controversial right down to the jacket, which contains a  crude schematic of the stowage compartment of a typical transatlantic slave ship. Survival is intended as a wake-up call for everyman to resist and fight oppression in all of its insidious forms. From Tyrone Downie’s opening synthesizer strains on “So Much Trouble in the World” to the keyboard accents emerging throughout “Zimbabwe,” the sounds of Survival are notably modern. The overwhelming influence of contemporary African music is also cited with the incorporation of brass, a’ la Fele Kuti and his horn-driven African 70. While “Top Rankin”, “Ride Natty Ride” and “Wake Up and Live” are the most obvious to benefit from this influence, there are other and often more subtle inspirations scattered throughout. Survival could rightly be considered a concept album.

3RD Annual Bob Marley's Birthday Bash – February 8th, 2012 at The Knitting Factory Reno

This year to celebrate the birthday of the reggae legend Bob Marley, Jahzilla will be teaming up with some of Reno’s finest talent to bring a very special tribute to one of the most influential artists of our time. They will be featuring 10 vocalists from different Reno bands of various genres all singing their rendition of one Bob Marley song. Jenes Carter of Mojo Green, Baldo Bobadilla of Drinking with Clowns, Dave Berry of Jelly Bread, and Carlene Bingham will be performing to name a few. Also, the Mojo Green horn section will be added into the mix to bring their powerful sound and complete the 10 piece backing band.  Jahzilla has been bringing reggae music to the Great Basin and beyond for over a decade. They helped create the first Bob Marley Birthday Bash in 2011 and it has been growing ever since. It’s no wonder. People cannot seem to get enough of Bob Marley’s music even thirty years after his passing.

Along with Jahzilla, Reno’s own Polynesian roots reggae group Uprising will also be performing at the event. They are quickly growing in popularity even earned spots at festivals such as One Love, One Heart Festival in Sacramento and Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival last summer.

Eph Bee Cee is an up and coming band from Reno that plays a Pacific Ocean-inspired strain of reggae that incorporates a variety of other genres and styles into the mix. They will be sure to get the party started right and get you moving your feet to their infectious rhythms and R&B infused vocals.  DJ Too Dread of “The Reggae Shack” radio show will be keeping the dance floor going all night with a mix of roots reggae, dub and dancehall. This year’s Bob Marley’s Birthday Bash will definitely be a very special night to remember. Don’t miss it!
