Little Pearls
Glimmers & Gratitude:  November 23, 2013
It’s been eleven months since my husband Jim Stokoe died, and Little Pearls has had to wait.
Grief is an unpredictable, powerful force.  Intentional grieving takes a tremendous commitment of time, energy and releasing, like being in a chrysalis.  Though still in transformation, I'm breaking through, feeling glimmers of something new.
Friends on Facebook, where I have done regular posts about my grief process, say they can envision a book.  Several new Little Pearls, including one on grief, are scratching on the door, too.  We'll see what unfolds in this new, changed world.
What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us. ~ Helen Keller
Surprise Serendipity: WLOS Person of the Week!
Just after our Board discussed how to do critical year-end outreach and fundraising when Little Pearls has been on hiatus, WLOS-TV news anchor Larry Blunt contacted me about his Person of the Week feature. He had found our website and was intrigued.  Larry is a warm, wonderful man who captured the heart of Little Pearls.  His story aired in the 6 pm news November 8!
Debra Roberts, Kat Williams and Daniel Barber have each had huge roles in the life of Little Pearls.  They are all featured.  Larry and his cameraman Derek shot a couple hours' worth of footage and included parts of several Pearls in the final story. The only thing missing is Dog Pearls. They had a lot of tough choices to make!
There are two ways to see this beautiful 3 1/2 minute story:
Thank you, Larry, Derek and WLOS!
There is much more to be grateful for in this time of Thanksgiving:
  • We reached the 2013 Top-Rated NonProfit level with Great NonProfits after not being able to work on it at all last year.  Here is our page link, where you can see the reviews: Little Pearls on Great NonProfits  Thank you to everyone who sent in new reviews, and earlier ones, too!
  • Our Sponsors.  I'll be contacting currently-listed sponsors about updating this page early in 2014.  Most are repeat sponsors, via financial or in-kind support.  We SO appreciate their generosity and loyalty.  Share the love and join us!
  • Family, friends and Care Partners, whose Hospice, Solace Center and Bereavement Program provide exceptional support to the dying and those who love them.  I don't know how I could have made it through this time without them.
Thanks to all of you who have supported me ~ and Little Pearls ~ in all ways!
And, for now...
This is the very best time of year for non-profits to find support for their work.  We will need to raise funds to make new Little Pearls and do the necessary outreach to share new and current ones.  As my energy returns, please:
  • Watch Little Pearls on YouTube. You might want to take some time, letting one of the playlists run, especially if you are feeling down, need some inspiration or just want a reminder of what truly matters.  They truly are gifts!
  • Visit our rich website
  • Give our beautiful DVD, to yourself and those you love.  Holidays are here, you know!
  • Check out our Pearl Dreams ~ this page has been newly organized into categories.  There WILL be new Pearls!
  • Become a new Sponsor, renew your sponsorship, or
