We Love Pets, Just Like You...
"Yappy Hour" a Success!
Our 1st ever "Yappy Hour" held on May 27th was a huge success! We had many owners and their pets attend to learn more about the Gwinnett County Jail Dogs program.  Thank you to Deputy Stephanie Martinez-Peres for coming to speak.  Also, thank you to Christina Navarro In Home Pet Groomer, Savannah Cheek from Savi Pet Massage & Vicky Gendron from Furtografie Atlanta for sharing information about your business.  A special thank you goes out to Bruster's on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd in Lawrenceville for allowing us to host the event at their location!

Check out the photos from the event here.

If you were unable to attend and would like to donate supplies to the Jail Dogs program, please see their list at:

Gwinnett County Jail Dogs Program

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office has 18 dogs and 6 cats available for adoption through Operation Second Chance. Society of Humane Friends and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office are partners in saving animal and inmate lives. The dogs and cats live with the inmates 24/7 and become well socialized and trained. The inmates learn positive reinforcement, responsibility, and get to share their cell with someone who has not a care in the world about the mistakes they’ve made in the past.

To learn more about this wonderful program visit www.jaildogs.org (it’s for cats too), and support us by spreading the word to those looking to adopt and by liking our Facebook pages at www.facebook.com/GwinnettCountySheriffsOfficeJailDogs or

Good pet food and water? Check. Flea control and heartworm preventative? Check. A comfy place to sleep? Check. Pet photography? Hmmm. It may not be the first thing that jumps to your mind when you think of important items in the lifetime of your beloved pet, but knowing that they won’t be around forever, portraits can be a wonderful artistic keepsake that will be!

After wishing for years that I had some wall-worthy photos of my dear cat Merlin who passed away in 2009 I started to realize the importance to some people of visually capturing the true spirit of an animal. I began to seriously work on my photography skills, practicing on my own pets and eventually branching out into weddings and family portraiture. In August of 2013 I finally quit my job to pursue professional photography full-time with a dedicated emphasis on pets.

I specialize in candid, environmental photos, capturing on camera your furries (or not so furries!) in their favorite spots, typically in the comfort of your own home. I have found this truly allows them to relax and be themselves, which results in some amazing shots! The thing I find the most special is being able to give people a very personal piece of artwork that they will treasure forever. I have been lucky enough to meet some amazing pets and witness first-hand the emotions brought up when the owners see the final artwork.

If you are interested in having me photograph your pet, or have questions about what a session entails, please feel free to contact me.

Massage for Dogs with Arthritis

Arthritis is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation and pain of one or more joints. Although there are many different forms of arthritis, osteoarthritis or degenerative joint diseases is the form most of our older pets suffer from. Osteoarthritis is caused by daily wear and tear to joints, typically the weight-bearing joints such as the back, limbs, and pelvis. In early stages of osteoarthritis mild pain is felt during activities, but soon the pain can be continuous and even occur while in a state of rest. This pain can keep many of our pets from doing the activities they once loved, like playing ball or going on walks.

Pet Sitting vs Cat or Dog Boarding
By Terie Hansen

Your trip is booked, the plane tickets are purchased and you are all set right? Wait a minute, aren’t you forgetting something, or should I say someone? Your pet (aka furry, finned, feathered family member)! Who will take care of your pet(s) while you are gone? Well there are many choices…A friend or neighbor (who often renege at the last minute, happens all the time because they really don’t want to do it), your vet, pet sitter, doggie day care place or private boarding might be the best option?
