My Southern Roots
It has been exactly three years since our family moved back South. My Southern roots seem to finally be returning...in the form of cotton!
The "Cotton Series" started without warning and I've been producing cotton piece after cotton piece for weeks on end now. I am taking the same approach as I took with my "Weed Series" and focusing on extreme angles of the plant from an ant's perspective. I have been using hand-made, found and cut patterns for backgrounds which creates the perfect juxtaposition for my soft & Earth-driven cotton to be placed into the foreground. I am playing with color palettes and moving from golds to blues with surprises of reds in certain pieces. All finished works can be framed or left with a modern wrapped canvas.
Please stop by my studio in the River Arts District if you're ever in Asheville. I would really love to see you!
