Permeable Pavers Coming to Streets, Sidewalks and Alleys... and Our Parking Lot!
The Creeks Division was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $2,307,010 from the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) to install permeable pavers in streets, sidewalks and alleys around town.

Specifically, project locations will include the 600 and 700 blocks of Quarantina Street, the sidewalks surrounding Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens, and the Plaza de Vera Cruz alley.

Oak Park Permeable PaversLike our recently completed Storm Water Infiltration Projects at Oak Park, Stevens Park, and the Westside Neighborhood Center, the projects are designed to infiltrate storm water (rain) and urban runoff that currently quickly flows into storm drains, creeks, and the ocean untreated.

The water is allowed to slowly soak into the ground beneath the pavers, where microbes in the soil will naturally break down pollutants like oil, metals, and bacteria.

We are happy to report that the City's Facilities Division also received a grant from the SWRCB to install permeable pavers in the two City parking lots surrounding Parks and Recreation, Creeks, and Facilities offices at 620 Laguna Street!

Look for more information to come as the projects begin construction next year.
