Board of Directors
I want to thank all the members of the Board of Directors who attended Tuesday’s board meeting despite freezing temperatures and blowing snow. Agenda items included the implementation of our Narcan Opioid Overdose Prevention Program and the need to prevent opioid overdose deaths in our communities. The Board of Directors also discussed the upcoming strategic planning retreat. Board members have embraced our strategic planning goals and I sincerely look forward to working with them to chart a successful course for STHCS’ future. I want to thank the members of the Board of Directors who have completed and returned their pre-retreat surveys to me and remind those who have not to get them back to me as soon as possible.

Paramedic Program
I’m very happy to report that the 2015 session of the Regional Paramedic Training Program began Monday. Twenty-two EMS providers are in this second class cohort. The Regional Paramedic Program is the only paramedic training program in Western New York certified by the Department of Health to utilize distance-learning technology. Students attend class in state-of-the-art distance learning labs at ALSTAR Training Center in Jamestown and Olean General Hospital’s Education Center.
I also wanted to let everyone know I’ll be attending the SEMAC/SEMSCO meeting next week in Troy. I’ll be attending along with Dr. Brian Walters, regional SEMAC and WREMAC representative and Mickey Forness and Ron Hasson of the Southwestern Regional EMS council. I’ll update you on what’s discussed at the meetings in my CEO Update next week.
