Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 7:00 pm Following a free afternoon workshop for students, the Dmitri Matheny Group appears live-in-concert with Jazz Noir, their popular program of hauntingly hip movie themes (film noir, spy thrillers and crime dramas), hardboiled originals and classic jazz. Concert highlights include music from Touch of Evil, Laura, Chinatown, Vertigo, Taxi Driver and Blues in the Night. Now entering its 60th Season, the Globe-Miami Community Concert Association offers quality performances by top artists at affordable prices. Dmitri joins forces with the CJS Quintet to celebrate the popular Los Angeles jazz band's 15th Anniversary.  A favorite jazz showcase since 1949, The Lighthouse Café of Hermosa Beach is where Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis and other giants recorded some of their most important live albums. Known for “hard driving bebop leavened with soulful blues” (Los Angeles Times), the CJS Quintet features Chuck Johnson (photo) tenor saxophone, James Smith trumpet, Koji Ono piano, Sherry Luchette bass and Roy McCurdy drums.
