Upcoming Workshops & Special Classes

H20 AT HOME:  JEAN COX PRESENTS ON NATURAL HOME & PERSONAL CARE EARTH FRIENDLY PRODUCTS, THURS., 3/12, 2:00 - 3:00 pm, No Charge to Attend

DANCE OF BREATH WITH LEIA JONES & MARTHA KASTLER, SAT., 3/14 from 12 - 3 pm

Experience the dance of the breath with Leia Jones and Martha Kastler. This workshop combines mindful movement and breath, breathwork and meditation. Leia’s playful yet mindful approach will incorporate organic dance movement, breath, and yoga postures to open the body gently. We will then transition to guided relaxation, breathwork, and meditation led by Martha. Martha’s intuitive guidance will offer participants the opportunity to explore the subtle realms of the breath. This gradually opens a greater awareness of the relationship between breath, energy, consciousness, and overall well being. Participants are encouraged to bring a pad such as a camping or Pilates mat that is thicker than a yoga mat for the breathwork portion of the workshop. A journal is also recommended to record your experience. Suggested donation of $15 - $25.

Leia Jones is an artist, dancer and yoga teacher. She has a degree in Dance and Choreography from Hollins University, and is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor. Her personal practice is rooted in the unification of yoga and dance. Inspiring creative expression and empowerment through this combination, she has learned that mindful movement has the ability to quiet the mind while reconnecting us to our joyful-spirit. Her unique soulful approach is an exploration of movement, intention and breath.

Martha Kastler studied Ashtanga Yoga with Jeff Tiebout. Having suffered numerous traumas and physical injuries, yoga was the first practice that showed Martha she has the potential for self healing. The deep focused practice of combined movement and breath awakened a profound desire to heal and be of service to others. As Martha became fascinated with breath, energy, and meditation she deepened her contemplative and esoteric practices and studies. This led to training in the healing arts of Restorative Breathwork with Kathleen Barratt and Bioenergy with world renowned healer Mietek Wirkus. Martha is a certified Barratt Breathwork® facilitator and is a masters level Bioenergy practitioner.

CANDLELIGHT RESTORATIVE SESSION, FRI., 4/24, 6 - 8 pm WITH GUEST TEACHER, COLLEEN DWYER, E-RYT 500

The busyness of life often gets us caught in a state of over-doing.  This workshop will demonstrate the importance of slowing down.  We will start with a body and breath focus,  some gentle movement, and then transition into a restorative yoga practice. With yoga props supporting the body, you rest in postures for prolonged periods of time, and the body is able to relax on a deeper level.   The stillness of the postures allow your body to rejuvenate, and your nervous system to calm, so you are naturally guided towards health and well being.  Pranayama  (breath-exercise) will be integrated throughout.

Colleen will take some time after the workshop to talk with anyone who would like more information on her upcoming Restorative Yoga Training, at In Balance Yoga  - September 25th to 28th.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE CHAKRAS, SAT., 4/25, 1 - 3 pm WITH COLLEEN DWYER, E-RYT 500

In a two hour hatha/flow session, Colleen will guide you through the Chakras (energy centers), starting with chakra one and moving up the spine to chakra seven.  She will use asanas (postures), specific movements, intentions, and breaths to bring balance and awareness to the seven major energy centers in the body.

Registration for workshops with Colleen:

$25 - for each individual workshop through 4/2/15
$30 - for each individual workshop 4/3/15 and after
$45 - For both the Restorative Yoga Session and Journey Through The Chakras through 4/2/15

Meet Emily Glasson: Our In Balance Yoga Teachers

Each month we will highlight a different In Balance Yoga teacher so you can learn more about us and our IBY team.

What is it that you hope to share to your students? What can students expect when they walk in the door to your class?

I want to give students a space to be at home in their bodies and explore movement. I try to help students adjust each pose to work for their unique body. Yoga is accessible to anyone, but it might look different for each person. In my classes, I prioritize ahimsa, or nonviolence, towards oneself and others. This means respecting your body and your own innate wisdom, as well as finding compassion for others.

We want to learn more about you. What would your perfect day look like?

A great day would include a long yoga practice, a hike in the woods, some delicious food, and relaxing time with friends and family.

What is your favorite quote?

“The mind lives in doubt and the heart lives in trust. When you trust, suddenly you become centered.” Osho

What inspires your teaching style?

I am inspired by teachers from several styles of yoga. My classes blend a strong focus on alignment with creativity, flow, and breath. I find the most inspiration in my personal practice. Some things can only be learned through experience. As a teacher, I try to give students the tools they need to find that inner knowledge for themselves.

Where is your favorite place to practice yoga?

I try to practice yoga off the mat, which means letting the mindfulness that I cultivate on the mat spill over into everyday life. Yoga can be practiced anywhere.

How has practicing yoga transformed your own life?

Yoga teaches me to be more present and aware in my daily life. My yoga practice changes day to day, and I love that there is always something new to learn, some deeper truth to uncover.

What is your favorite music to listen to while practicing?

I like the music to match my practice, either something more peaceful on restorative days or something with a beat when I want to move more.

What is your favorite aspect of teaching?

I love when students have breakthroughs, when something they’ve been working on a long time finally clicks into place.
