Good Dog Pet Care
We Love Pets, Just Like You...
Happy April!

As the spring rains start greening things up I find myself renewed in many ways. Babies of all kinds seem to be everywhere! Kittens, ducklings, geese and soon many birds will be laying their eggs. I just visited a neighbor who had a litter of Schnauzer puppies, so cute!
This gives me a feeling of more good things to come. More sunny days, more outside time, more family and friends spending time together. I’ve been suffering from cabin fever, how about you?
So I recently joined a meetup group that hikes with their dogs. I’ve attended two events and let me tell you it was great fun. Meeting new people and my dog Cole getting to make new friends as well. All while enjoying the great outdoors. If you haven’t tried something new lately just do it. If you would like to learn more about the meetup group reach out to me and I’ll share it with you. We can always use more new friends.
This month also brings many pet related nationally recognized days…Nat’l Heartworm Awareness Month, Nat’l Pet Day, Nat’l Hairball Awareness Day (yes really), Nat’l Kids & Pets Day, Nat’l Dolphin Day and National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day to name a few.
So spring is almost officially here. Get up, get going and do something! Alone, with a friend, family member or pet tagging along. Life is short, take action!

Warm regards,

5 Simple Steps for Helping
Your Dog Handle Grief
Dogs and Grief, How You Can Help
By Terie Hansen

Dogs, like people have different personalities, each being an individual. When a family experiences the loss of a dog and they have another dog(s), the one left behind will grieve the loss of the passing pack member.
Some dogs grieve longer than others but in general, compared to their human counterparts their grieving process is less emotional and much shorter. However if the human puts all their emotions into the dog(s) that is left it can certainly extend the grieving process and may even create some behavioral problems.

While it can be difficult for you the best approach is:

1.  If possible allow the companion dog(s) to be present at the Euthanasia. A mobile veterinarian can typically perform an in home euthanasia allowing for a peaceful passing and the presence of the other pack members.Read more here.

5 Important Tips to Avoid Mosquitos
AVOID NEW MOSQUITO DANGERS NOW TO STAY SAFER LONG TERM
By Jeannie Moreira, Mosquito Squad of Duluth-Lawrenceville

Although right now it seems to be far from the Duluth, Lawrenceville, Johns Creek, Suwanee, and other metro Atlanta areas of Georgia, we all need to be aware of what The Rhode Island Department of Health told the public late last year regarding mosquitos and Chikungunya.
They confirmed two cases of Chikungunya (pronounced Chicken-Guy-Yuh), a viral infection, involving travelers who returned from the Dominican Republic last month, the first cases of the disease being found in the northeast.
According to officials, the virus is primarily spread through the bites of infected mosquitoes. It is typically found in Caribbean countries, as well as Africa, Asia and islands in the Indian and western Pacific oceans, but there have been about 41 cases reported in the U.S. this year.   Read more here.

Pets of the Month
Pretzel and
Chicklett are
two sweet kitties that live together. They are just one year old. They are very sweet, a little shy but very playful once they get to know you. Chicklett will chirp a little when you pick her up, Pretzel is a lover and they both enjoy cuddle time.

When their owners are away they like to make a bit of mischief by unrolling the toilet paper roll! Good times.
Monthly Recipe
We thought we’d share with you some of our favorite recipes that we ourselves have found to be tried and true. I hope your family enjoys them as much as we do!

This is one of my favorite recipes.
Lasagna Roll Ups
I use fresh spinach and I make my own simple sauce. You can also add things like Italian sausage, basil, or anything you feel like to change it up.
