Board of Directors
I want to thank the members of the Board of Directors for attending Monday’s board meeting. Representatives from Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro (BWB) P.C. reviewed our 2014 audited financial statements. Once again this year, I’m happy to report that BWB issued an unqualified opinion on our financial statements and fiscal controls, which is the highest rating available for an independent audit. I want to thank our Fiscal Coordinator Health Coyle and the members of our staff for all their hard work. I also want to thank the Board of Directors for their continued support and guidance as we pursue our mission to improve the health and wellness of the rural communities we serve.

Narcan Training
Our Southern Tier Overdose Prevention Program (STOPP) trained 30 Allegany County Deputy Sheriffs Thursday in the use of Narcan to reverse an opioid overdose. The deputies are responsible for inmates in the Allegany County Jail, which is where we provided the training. We also trained some dispatchers and jail nurses in the use of Narcan. The request to train the deputies grew out of our March Narcan trainings of law enforcement and basic life support first responders in Cattaraugus County. Narcan blocks opioid receptors in the brain, stopping an overdose before it causes death. It is harmless if given to someone who is not experiencing an overdose. This program is supported by the New York State Department of Health and amFAR. STHCS will provide Narcan training to law enforcement, basic life support first responders and non-EMS firefighters in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties and to individuals in Cattaraugus County. For more information, or if you would like to host a Narcan training, please contact me at (716) 372-0614 or at dkahm@sthcs.org.
