Good Dog! Coaching & Pet Care
We Love Pets, Just Like You..
Happy July!

With cases of the canine flu virus cropping up in Gwinnett, at Good Dog! Coaching & Pet Care we are taking extra precautions to keep our four legged clients safe. Along with our regular washing of hands we are now also using hand sanitizer after each pet visit. We do not allow clients pets to come in contact with other dogs or humans while in our care. When taking dogs for walks we are making sure that they potty in their own yard and that while out on walks the dogs do not get into or near areas where other dogs may have been.  We take this matter very seriously and want to do everything we can to ensure the safety and health of the pets we care for.  Also, with the soaring temperatures we may shorten our midday walks a bit and spend the extra time indoors playing and cuddling with our furry friends. We have had no complaints from the pets as a good belly rub is always welcome!

Warm regards,

6 Tips to Keep Your Dog
Cool When Temperatures Soar

Keeping your dog cool when temperatures soar is easy if you follow these 6 simple tips.

When temperatures are extreme whether hot or cold dogs still need exercise. Young dogs, puppies or high energy breeds can get cabin fever and become destructive if kept inside for to long without a way to release excess mental and physical energy.

It’s easy to use the excuse that it is too hot or cold to take your dog for a walk but remember that our dogs are solely reliant on us for their needs and one of their main needs is exercise.  Read more here.

Welcome New Sitters
Joshua's love for animals is what sparked his interest and  ultimately pushed him to enter the wonderful world of pet care. In addition to his career in healthcare, he has also to one extent or another been a dog walker/pet sitter for the better part of the last decade. He understands the importance of trusting someone to care for your "kids" in addition to letting them int...o your home. Joshua is an extremely proud daddy to Lily and Bella. Lily is a gorgeous, and sweet as a Georgia pecan pie, American pit bull terrier while Bella is a special needs (3-legged), melt your heart, Beagle/lab mix. He has years of experience working with both special needs animals in addition to specially trained therapy dogs. He looks forward to meeting you and your fur babies and cannot wait to provide you with the best and most competent pet care services.

Julie lives in Stone Mountain with her 3 dogs Roo, Levi & Emmett. She has recently quit her job as a paralegal/legal assistant to fulfill her dream of working and caring for animals. In March of 2014, she became a foster for Angels Among Us Pet Rescue and continues to care for and nurse back to health several fur babies, including after surgery care and heartworm positives. Sh...e also takes care of several feral cats. Julie firmly believes that a pet is part of the family and should be treated as such. They provide unconditional love and should be cared for and loved and taken care of properly as one would take care of a child or other family member. That means they deserve as much respect from us as we expect from them.
Canine Flu - 6 Steps
to Protect Your Pet
by Terie Hansen

All this talk of the canine flu. What is it and how do we prevent it from affecting our pets?

There are two strains of the canine flu virus. The first one is the H3N8 strain which was first reported in the U.S. In 2004. There is a vaccine available for this older strain. The second and newer strain is the H3N2 which was first reported in the U.S. Last month. Currently there is NO vaccine available for this strain.

Symptoms may include coughing, runny nose, eye discharge, lethargy, fever, loss of appetite and weight. However some dogs don't exhibit any symptoms.

If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms seek veterinary care immediately. Although this is a virus and as such there is no specific treatment, a secondary bacterial infection is possible and medication can be prescribed. Additionally knowing whether or not your dog has the flu can be a determining factor in how you proceed with care and most importantly daily interaction with other dogs.  Read more here.
