Hi Everyone,
Technology first. My newsletter service is still having trouble with hotmail. So if you are on my mailing list with a hotmail address, you may not receive the newsletter as an email. It is still accessible though via the link in our FB group. Please tell your hotmail Israeli dance friends about this problem. And if you are a hotmail subscriber to this newsletter, feel free to send me a non-hotmail email address that I can add to the distribution list.
Meanwhile it is hard to believe, but our annual Erev Thanksgiving/ Phil's Surprise Birthday Party for himself is coming right up. Save the date. Wednesday night November 25 (my actual birthday!). Details to follow. Can't wait. :o)
This is a personal one from me. Some of you will remember that over the last few years I have been doing the Skyrise Tower Climb in honor of Susan and in Support of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Please look at the blurb at the end of the newsletter if you'd like to learn more, and support my climb. And thanks much to those of you who have already contributed!

We are sending refu'a shlema to:
- Neva Gov-Ari, Shmulik's wife, who is recovering from surgery.
- Adar Gov-Ari, Shmulik and Neva's son. Adar suffered wa very serious work accident in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Adar and the whole Gov-Ari family. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

Please look below to see the flyer for a dance series being presented by Steve and Sarah. It started on Saturday afternoon, 10/10, and runs for 5 weeks. The course is called "Beginners Couple Dance Techniques." What a great idea! We hope people will take advantage. There is talk that they may extend their series. Please let them know if you are interested.
I'd like to tell you about a new feature in the newsletter. I am calling it "Ads From Our Community Members." The intent is to let our people know about things our members want to promote. (I am not charging for this service.) If you go to almost the end of the newsletter, you will see our inaugural ad from Lauren Gallagher as she opens her skin care business.
If you have something you want to promote, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing you all Thursday night!
CYA on the dance floor,
Phil

 | A word about the links in the newsletter. Sometimes they are active. All you have to do is click on them. And sometimes you need to copy the link into your browser. I do believe though that all of the links are working.
From last week:
Last week we did this new fun circle dance from Michael Barzilay (no relation to Dudu). I've been holding off from teaching it because there is pretty much nothing Israeli about it except the choreographer. But it is very cute, very fun, and gaining traction around the US, and more recently in Israel. Try it on for size.
La Trompeta
Our friend, Ofer Alfasi showed his new circle dance when he was in town:
Ledaber
Last week we reprised Gadi Bitton's fab partner dance, Hi Lo Yoda'at Ma Over Alai. It is a production but well worth it.
HI Lo Yoda'at
So I got to thinking about this dance a little. There is also a circle dance by Ra'anan Mor to the same song, although edited a little differently. Based on the responses I've received from around the world, I would say that if the dance is done at all in local sessions (and this is probably the exception rather than the rule), the circle dance is more predominant. I suspect that it has mostly to do with which version was first presented in a given geography. But the circle dance is generally considered to be easier, so this may be a factor as well. Here it is, with a shout out to Lauren who loves this version:
Hi Lo Yoda'at Ma Over Alai
Dances From Penny's Session:
A nice circle dance by Avi Perez:
Mi Yiten Ve'amen
And here is a recently taught circle dance by Elad Shtamer:
Bein Ko Vacho
Penny also reprised Sa'adya Amishai's classic partner dance, Adama Admati. This video features Sa'adya himself and it really is a treat:
Adama Admati

For those who try to find Israeli dance videos on line, I wanted to make sure you know that you can find many of them at:
http://www.rokdim.co.il/youtube/rokdim_youtube.asp
You can watch the whole video there on the site. And if you want to download it, you can make arrangements to purchase it there. I do believe that for the most part, once a dance makes it on to the Rokdim site, it is less likely to change than dances published only in other places. This is not an absolute rule of the universe, but in general I believe it is so. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this resource.
Here is an important note about the site from Yaron Meishar who owns Rokdim:
Dear reader.
From today, for watching "Rokdim" videos full-length, must browse the site with your e-mail and password (If you are not yet registered please do it here: Http://www.rokdim.co.il/home/LandingPage.asp) so the site will identifies you with your name. In addition, you have to be registered for receiving an e-mails from "Rokdim". Without those 2 conditions the video will appear for 20 seconds only. Please accept it with understanding
Thank you!!!
Yaron Meishar, Director
Hebrew:
בנוסף יש להיות רשום גם לקבלת אימילים מ"רוקדים".
ללא 2 תנאים אלה הסרטון יופיע ל-20 שניות בלבד
אנא קבלו זאת בהבנה

 | Support Phil's Skyrise Chicago 2015 Climb!
|
Dear Friends, To honor and support my wife and my best friend, Susan Moss - star Social worker at RIC, I am participating in SkyRise Chicago 2015, tackling the planet’s highest indoor tower climb at the Willis Tower (103 floors 2,109 stairs) to raise funds for the nation's best rehabilitation hospital, according to US News and World Report – the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC)! RIC provides world-class rehabilitation care to thousands of patients for traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, stroke and cancer recovery, and more. The funds raised through SkyRise Chicago 2015 will directly support advances in patient care and cutting-edge research at RIC.
SkyRise Chicago is truly a special event. It’s the only tower climb in the world to offer two modes of participation - by foot up the Willis Tower stairs and via stationary hand-cycling the equivalent distance uphill.
These options give anyone, no matter their level of ability, the opportunity to participate. Help me as I challenge myself physically and mentally to complete the climb and support RIC, a not-for profit hospital organization. Your donation will help RIC continue to provide patients with world-class care for the brightest possible future.
Tower Up!
This will be my fourth time climbing the tower. It is a great challenge and also great fun. I train for it year around and this year, I will do it after having survived a heart attack in August of 2014. I am very lucky to be able to do something like this after an event like that.
I would be truly grateful for your support as I try to raise money for RIC.
The climb is on November 8th.
You can donate here: http://ric.convio.net/site/TR/SkyRise/General?px=1135170&pg=personal&fr_id=1120
Thanks so much,
Phil
