Piranha Bites - November 2015
Letter from the Director
By Kirk Hampleman
Piranhas,

Welcome to a new Short Course season! I hope that everyone is adjusting to training whether it is your first season with us or your sixth. Things are definitely changing in the pool for the Piranhas. We have welcomed so many new faces to the team over the last two months and  I would like for all of our returning Piranhas to make our newcomers feel welcome! Remember that our YMCA core values are Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. Let’s attempt to live up to these values every day, that is what will make you a great teammate and competitor.

We are starting to enter the more competitive part of our season. We now have several meets under our belt and you should feel like you are starting to get into the swing of things. I encourage each and every one of you to have discussions with your coaches every week about what things you are doing well with at practice and what things you need to continue to improve upon. Many of you keep a swimming journal which documents your practices and competition times. As a staff we believe that a swimming journal is a great tool that can help you keep track of your goals and reach new heights. If you would like more information about what kinds of things you should write in your swimming journal please ask your coach.

This past weekend we had lots of great swims in Baylor TN from our senior swimmers and we are looking forward to our junior swimmers having a great meet in Hickory NC this upcoming weekend.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving as well.
Go Piranhas!!!

Piranhas,
My how fast the first few months of a new season can go! I would like to echo Coach Kirk's sentiments and say that it has been an absolute pleasure both welcoming all of our new Piranha team members as well as continuing to work with familiar faces. Next week is my one year anniversary with the team and I can easily say that working with all of you has been my most enjoyable experience in coaching to date! I cannot wait to see what the next year has in store for all of you.

Last week we held a successful Junior Banquet in celebration of the previous season. It was fantastic to be able to recognize the accomplishments of last year, and even more exciting was seeing team members who are brand new to our team in attendance as well! Whether brand new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, we are all in this together, and our staff is very proud of the fact that we do not treat any one swimmer with more attention than another.

As we prepare to enter the "holiday season" please take time to reflect on all you have learned in the first few months of the season. Now is the time to continue working on your strokes and it is also a great time to continue building endurance in anticipation of the last few months of the short course season. Also be sure to enjoy time with friends and family during this special time of year--just try not to eat TOO much!

We are all looking forward to a great few months ahead. Go Piranhas!

Junior Banquet
On Friday, November 6 we held our annual Junior Banquet in celebration of the 2014-2015 season. We had a very strong turn out and it was great to see everyone outside of the pool. Special thanks to our parent group for organizing the event!
