Connect: The Connect Social Skills program is now enrolling for the Summer Session which will meet June 13-24. 
Family Group Night: The next FGN Meeting will be on May 16, 2016. Dinner will be served at 5:30 and childcare will be provided! We are delighted to announce that nationally recognized guest speaker Lorri Unumb will be joining us. Lorri will be discussing the Autism Bill and what it means for families facing autism as we move forward. For more details on this month's FGN, check the SGH News above or call us at 828-693-4223. Click here to register now! 
Summer Camp: The Kindergarten-First Grade Readiness program will be in session from June 13-August 5. This program has been developed for children ages 4-7 who need assistance preparing to transition to mainstream kindergarten or have completed kindergarten.  First Words of Hope Luncheon: Our Sixth Annual First Words of Hope Luncheon was a great success! Thank you to all those who attended the event, made a donation or volunteered!  We are very blessed to have your support! 
Thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting our luncheon. This event is vital to the growth and impact of our programs. 
SGH Welcomes Lorri Unumb as FGN Guest Speaker: Lorri is a lawyer, professor, and the mother of three. In 2005, she wrote ground-breaking autism insurance legislation for South Carolina (“Ryan’s Law”) that passed in 2007 and served as the catalyst for the national movement toward autism insurance reform. In 2008 she joined the Autism Speaks team, where she now advocates full-time on behalf of individuals with autism.  As head of state government affairs, she has testified more than 100 times on health insurance issues in legislatures around the country. 
Lorri will be giving two presentations on May 16th. Both presentations will cover the Autism Bill and what it means for families and practitioners moving forward.

Special Olympics of Henderson County: Our Grotto students, families and staff enjoyed a great day at the Special Olympics of Henderson County. The variety of events and activities allowed all of our students to participate. We are already looking forward to next year! 
Foolish Hope: At our Sixth Annual Luncheon, local musician Eric Congdon shared his song, Foolish Hope. This beautiful song, written by Congdon about the trials, tribulations and joys of living with autism, is available on iTunes for purchase. All proceeds will be donated to SGH and will directly benefit our programs. If you are interested in listening to or purchasing his song, click here. 
Welcome to SGH: Karen Sigmon
Karen Sigmon has joined the SGH team's accounting department and we are so grateful to have her! Karen was born and raised in Wolverhampton, England. In 2009, Karen proudly became a United States citizen and moved to the North Carolina mountains in 2015 with her husband, Tom. Her passions are gardening, hiking, reading and helping raise the bar in support of SGH's operational success.
