Blues News You Can Use!
 Overkill? No Way!
Happy 2017 to one and all! Each week I sit down to prepare this newsletter I try to reflect on what the readers might enjoy, and come up with some tidbit that just might catch someone's interest for this opening column. Today, I have to admit that MY interest might not so much be YOUR interest....but I am going to tell you about it anyway!
My husband and I attended our first International Blues Challenge (IBC) in 2007 and have been going every year since. We tossed our hats into the ring as volunteers in 2009 and in doing so have come to find the event even MORE amazing. On top of the amazing blues lovers we meet each year, the incredible talent of the national and international artists...all in one city...on one street is just mind-boggling. In addition to the competition there are SO MANY ways to learn more about the blues while in Memphis. The Blues Foundation is ramping up the daytime workshop offerings again this year and of course seeing the future of the blues at the youth showcase are both must do activities...and don't forget to venture off to visit the Blues Hall of Fame (Blues Foundation members get in free!) If you find any "extra" time of course Memphis offers quite an array of historic music and history locations to visit. So, basically I could go on and on telling you about the great adventure attending IBC is, but at some point you have to jump in with both feet and attend yourself! For now...here in Northwest Arkansas, we get to prepare
for the journey to the International Blues Challenge with our
Road to Memphis Fundraiser. Read on below for information on this exciting events.
And remember you can let me know if you have any ideas or comments. Just send them to me anytime at:

You have to open your mind. I like the ability to express myself in a deep way. It's the closest music to our humanity - it's like a folk music that rises up out of a culture.
