Captain Lewis J Heslip lived a life we would all to aspire to. He was a perfect example of a kind, compassionate, physically fit, strong and loving man. While enjoying a bike ride on May 24, 2016 he suffered a cardiac event and passed away instantly. He touched so many people in such a positive way the Lewis J Heslip Foundation was created to honor him and all the wonderful work he did for our community.
The Lewis J Heslip Foundation has raised $20,000 with the short term goal of $25,000 to create an endowment. Each year a student attending New River Community College will be chosen to receive a full scholarship based on his or her leadership skills, motivation, desire to further his or her education and their financial need.
The foundation will also support Project 14, a leadership program Captain Heslip was developing to enable his fellow officers, as well as anyone in the community interested, to attend leadership training and other developmental opportunities.
This spring the foundation will start "Live Your Dream" for children who do not have financial means and or a support system to "live their dream". This will include things such as participating in sports, summer camps, any type of lessons dance, piano, horseback riding, etc. The mission is to provide children who do not have the financial resources with the opportunity to live their dream through not only financial support but also a mentorship program.

4 Part Vinyasa Sequencing Workshop with Jeanmarie Paolillo
Sequencing 1: Effects of Postures for Sequencing
March 11, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
In this workshop, we will take a look at each major grouping of asana - considerations in preparing for those asana and what those asana prepare for within the larger scheme of a class.
Sequencing 2: Key Principles
April 8, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
Sequencing is a critical aspect of any high-quality asana class. The postures chosen and the order in which they are presented will affect a student's experience significantly. In this workshop, we will look at the considerations in ordering postures in a meaningful way to create safe and dynamic sequences.
Sequencing 3: Considerations and Structure in Sequencing
May 6, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
Creating a sequence is like writing a story; each has a beginning, middle, and an end. There is a logical crescendo toward the climax of the storyline, followed by a thoughtful cooling down and a resolution or ending. In this workshop we will look at the theory behind structuring a class and factors that need to be considered in sequencing.
Sequencing 4: Advanced Asana
June 10, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
In this final workshop of the series, we will work through some real-life applications of sequencing. We will create sequences around advanced asana and explore the considerations inherent in teaching these to open level classes.
This workshop is part of the In Balance Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training program.
**Open to the Public - Price TBD

Grounding Flow with Leia: Donations for TreeSisters
Saturday, 3/4, 1:30 - 3:00 pm
Join Leia for this Tree Pose Themed Grounding Flow. 100% proceeds donated to the TreeSisters.
Imagine if it was normal for all of us to give money for trees every month to consciously balance both our taking and our warming....we could reforest our planet in no time.
TreeSisters is about building a huge engine of change in the form of a global network of women working together to re-robe the planet as fast as possible.
We are developing 3 core strategies:
1) How to build a global network of women, and resource, empower and inspire them to work together to effect major change. A women led global crowd funding campaign for swift reforestation is doable, practical and needed now...
2) How to reforest the tropics within 10 years. How to build a collaborative map of steps to show how money raised in the global north can effect enormous change if deployed through existing reforestation and avoided deforestation initiatives in the field...
3) How to build bridges of care and shared responsibility between the two.

The class had physicians, physical therapists, oncologists, plastic surgeons, etc. speaking and educating the group as to what breast cancer patients/survivors are going through, or could be going through.
