EMS Leadership Academy
I’m very happy to report that our EMS Leadership Academy training last Friday and Saturday went very well. More than 28 EMS agency leaders from Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties attended the training. This training is part of our EMS Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Program. In surveys following the training, attendees said they benefitted from the training, adding that it gave them new insight and fresh perspectives on how to guide and manage a volunteer EMS agency. After reviewing their feedback, we feel it’s important for us to seek out additional funding to provide this training again in the future. Leadership is the key to improving volunteer recruitment and retention. I want to thank all the EMS providers and agencies that participated in the training and the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for supporting the program.
Honoring Walt Reisner
I want to thank all the EMS providers and supporters who attended Saturday’s memorial service for Walt Reisner. Walt died last Thursday. More than two dozen ambulances and EMS vehicles led a procession from the funeral home. Walt, a former Vice Chairman of the STHCS Board of Directors, cofounded Trans Am Ambulance along with his wife Ruth in 1982. Walt was the first advanced life support and critical care EMS provider certified in Cattaraugus County. He also helped us plan and start the Regional Paramedic Training Program which ensures the region will continue to benefit from paramedic-level EMS care. Always willing to help out others, Walt exemplified what community commitment is all about.
