CEO Update
Lindsey Mapes
I’m very happy to share with you that Lindsey Mapes has been named director of our Southern Tier Child Advocacy Center (STCAC). I also want to welcome Lindsey to the STHCS family. She lives in Olean and has worked for the YMCA of the Twin Tiers for six years. For the last two years, she has served as Director of Child Care and Membership at the YMCA of the Twin Tiers in Bradford, Pa. Through her work at the YMCA, Lindsey is familiar with the work of the STCAC. She also helped created a Court Appointed Victim Advocacy program for the McKean County Court system in Pennsylvania. Karen Hill, our former STCAC director, is the new Executive Director of the New York State Children’s Alliance. I wish Karen nothing but the best as she embarks on this new endeavor.
Health Insurance Enrollment Surge
Our New York State of Health navigators have been extremely busy this past open enrollment period. So I wasn’t surprised when the New York Health Plan Marketplace reported that nearly 50,000 New Yorkers across the state signed up for health insurance during the final two days of the open enrollment period. According to the state, January 31, was the busiest day ever for the New York State of Health Marketplace website. The increase boosted the number of people who receive coverage through the marketplace to more than 3.6 million, an increase of more than 800,000 people since the end of the 2016 open enrollment period. I’m very happy that we’re able to offer navigation assistance for the New York State of Health insurance marketplace for the Southern Tier. I want to thank Healthy Community Alliance and Universal Primary Care for contracting with us to provide this service.
