Next up....Annual Meeting
With the Ozark Blues Society annual meeting about a week and a half away, we would like to highlight the importance of membership. You must hold a current membership in Ozark Blues Society (OBS) in order to participate in our annual meeting and board elections. Memberships start at $15 a year.  Your membership funds go to support a broad range of programs and events that OBS offers to keep a focus on
the great American art form known as the blues. Please read on below
and consider joining us for the
annual meeting on March 7, 2017. And remember there is still time to renew your membership so you can vote at the 2017 annual meeting and board elections.
Don't miss the article below on our most recent outreach event. Our Blues in the Schools event in Fayetteville was amazing!

Blues in the Schools
This week we once more presented Blues in the Schools to the entire 7th Grade in Fayetteville Public Schools. This year the band doing our presentation was a slightly downsized version of the current lineup of the Brick Fields Band.

Our morning started early at Woodland Junior High School where all 350 students attended the event held in the gymnasium during the first period of the day.  We love to get the kids involved so were excited Rachel's daughters, Sally and Riley and their friends, come forward to assist the group in learning about call and response.

After a mid-day break we set up at Ramay Junior High for three 45 minute long programs each for groups of about 100 of the school's 7th graders.
The response of students as well as teachers was wonderful again this year. We have already been asked to come back next year!

You have to open your mind. I like the ability to express myself in a deep way. It's the closest music to our humanity - it's like a folk music that rises up out of a culture.

"There's a sadness to all kinds of music if you want to hear it. There's also happiness to it if you want to hear it."

I was always singing the way I felt, and maybe I didn't exactly know it, but I just didn't like the way things were down there-in Mississippi.
