CEO Update
Adopt a Crib Update
It was only announced last week, but our Adopt a Crib Campaign has already found support. I’m very excited to report that the Olean Medical Group, Medical Group CEO Dan Strauch, Joe Pillittere of the Pillittere Group and Gary Clayson of Franklinville have adopted cribs! Through the campaign, people can “adopt” a Pack ’n Play portable crib for $55. We started the Adopt a Crib Campaign to help support our Cribs for Kids Program. The program provides parents in need with infant safe sleep education and a portable Pack ’n Play crib with a fitted sheet. We initially thought we’d need 40 cribs for a year. In the last 13 months, we’ve distributed 108 Pack ’n Plays and educated 134 parents and caregivers about the importance of infant safe sleep practices. We secured funding from local foundations to start the program, but hadn’t anticipated demand. We launched the Cribs for Kids program following four infant deaths linked to unsafe sleep environments. If you have questions or want more information, please contact our Prevention Coordinator Jeff Ciminesi at (716) 372-0614 or jciminesi@sthcs.org.
STEMS Spring Training
We’re hosting our 11th annual STEMS Spring Training Conference next Friday and Saturday. More than 220 EMS providers from across Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania are attending. We created the Spring Training Conference to bring top-tier EMS educators to the Southern Tier. This year’s Spring Training Conference focuses on medical emergencies and it will be held at Good Times of Olean. This year’s theme is medical emergencies. Topics include 12-lead ECGs, treating stroke patients, understanding and responding to diabetic emergencies, positive airway pressure and the new collaborative protocols. The Spring Training offers continuing medical education credits and has become one of the premier EMS training events in the region. I want to thank our sponsors for helping make the Spring Training Conference possible. Our sponsors include ECMC, Mercy Flight, Starflight, Olean General Hospital, Professional Ambulance Billing, Jones Memorial Hospital and Westfield Memorial Hospital.
