Vinyasa Sequencing Workshop with Jeanmarie Paolillo
4/8, 5/6 & 6/10, 1:45 - 3:45 pm, $25 per session

Sequencing 2: Key Principles
April 8, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Sequencing is a critical aspect of any high-quality asana class. The postures chosen and the order in which they are presented will affect a student's experience significantly. In this workshop, we will look at the considerations in ordering postures in a meaningful way to create safe and dynamic sequences.

Sequencing 3: Considerations and Structure in Sequencing
May 6, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Creating a sequence is like writing a story; each has a beginning, middle, and an end. There is a logical crescendo toward the climax of the storyline, followed by a thoughtful cooling down and a resolution or ending. In this workshop we will look at the theory behind structuring a class and factors that need to be considered in sequencing.

Sequencing 4: Advanced Asana
June 10, 2017 • In Balance Yoga • 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

In this final workshop of the series, we will work through some real-life applications of sequencing. We will create sequences around advanced asana and explore the considerations inherent in teaching these to open level classes.

Vinyasa means to move or place with intention. "Krama" is the intelligence behind that intention, and the purpose for why we choose to structure our practice in the way that we do. Increasingly start to believe that by increasing the challenge, will increase the benefit. But how can we find our "flow" and yet honor the space we are in today? This class not only aims to help the student build ourselves physically, we will also learn to listen to the wisdom of our bodies and use the principles Ahimsa (non-harming) and Satya (truthfulness) to find our own "compassionate truth" in our practice.

Community Yoga for Breast Cancer Patients/Survivors w/ Karen
Saturday, 4/22, 2:30 - 3:30 pm

A couple of years ago, Karen C. had the opportunity to take a free course from the Christina Phipps Foundation, which teaches yoga instructors how to teach a class for breast cancer survivors and patients currently going through treatment for breast cancer

The class had physicians, physical therapists, oncologists, plastic surgeons, etc. speaking and educating the group as to what breast cancer patients/survivors are going through, or could be going through. The class has also proven to be beneficial to the group as survivors and patients supporting one another.

Let’s chat about where to go with all of this!
Posture Lab: Chataranga with Jo
Saturday, 5/13, 12:00 - 1:15 pm, drop in or class pass to attend

Ah yes. The infamous Chaturanga.

A fundamental pose in Vinyasa yoga, Chaturanga Dandasana, (or four-limbed staff pose) is actually quite complex and considered an advanced posture.  Whether you love or loath this transitional asana, repeating it often, class after class with the slightest misalignment over time can cause major problems for the muscles and tendons in and around the shoulder joint.

Join Jo as we break down the key components of Chaturanga, the building blocks of transitioning in and out of the pose, modifications, safety, and a relaxing recovery. Learn how to take these components to your daily hot yoga or vinyasa practice. Beneficial for all level students and for yoga teachers.

Honey Lemon Blueberry Muffin Recipe!
Simply Clean Meals

These grain-free muffins are made with almond flour and make a perfect healthy snack. Even if you don't follow a grain-free diet, give almond flour a try! It's nutrient dense and is rich with protein, fat and vitamin E.

3 cups almond flour*
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt

2 TBL + 1 tsp. coconut oil, melted
⅓ cup honey (or real maple syrup)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
3 eggs

Zest from 1 large lemon
¼ cup blueberries (frozen ok)
  1. Heat oven to 350. Line a muffin tin with paper liners (for this recipe, I recommend using paper liners/baking cups rather than greasing the tin.)
  2. In a medium sized mixing bowl, stir together the almond flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the oil, honey, vanilla, apple cider vinegar and eggs. Pour wet ingredients into dry. Add the lemon zest. Stir well to mix ingredients completely. Fold in the blueberries. (Note: The batter won't look like regular muffin batter and will be somewhat sticky.)
  4. Using an ice cream scoop, place about 2-3 tablespoons of batter into each tin. You'll only fill each tin about 1/2-2/3 full. Place in the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until fully cooked and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
*NOTE: be sure to use almond flour, not almond meal
