Spring Training Conference
We dedicated our 11th-annual Spring Training Conference, which was held last Friday and Saturday, to former STHCS Board Member Walt Reisner. Walt was a passionate advocate for rural EMS care and he knew many of the men and women who attended the conference. He also always supported the Spring Training Conference. The EMS providers who attended report that they found the training conference beneficial. Attendees were particularly impressed with the quality of presenters we brought to the conference. This year’s Spring Training Conference focused on medical emergencies. Topics included diabetic emergencies, traumatic amputation, stroke, 12-lead ECGs for basic EMTs, positive airway pressure and the new Collaborative Protocols. More than 200 EMS providers attended the Spring Training Conference. I want to thank our STEMS Coordinator Abbe Kahm and Mickey Forness of SWREMSCO for planning the conference. I also want to thank conference volunteers Tom Sampson, Tim Richardson, Nancy Luger, Todd Reisner, Nate Douglas, Mona Carbone, Laura Logan, Phil Wilson, Sue Campbell, Maggie Thompson and Ron Hasson.
STHCS Building
STHCS’ plan to move to a new home in downtown Olean is on track. Last week, our architect met with city of Olean officials to ensure we are meeting all the necessary requirements and that our permits in order. We’ve submitted our engineering, architectural and renovation plans as well. STHCS also submitted applications to the city’s Revolving Loan Fund and its Downtown Property Improvement Program fund. We also have a signed letter from the building’s current owner and a commitment letter from the bank, clearing our way to purchase the building and renovate it. I want to thank the Board of Directors for their support and encouragement as we enter this next chapter in STHCS’ story.
