It's The Vinyl Countdown
You've been in training for months, and now here it is: Record Store Day. Your neighbors told you that you were crazy for building that obstacle course in your backyard to practice your running and snatching skills, but they'll be sorry when you won't share your limited edition Space Jam soundtrack double LP. Then they'll see. They'll all see.
You may think no one understands your feverish devotion to Record Store Day, but here at Harvest Records, we get it. Not only will we not judge you for waiting outside on the sidewalk all night, we love you, and we salute you. You refuse to let a world where caring isn't cool dim your enthusiasm for great deals and great music, and when the doors open at 10 AM and you get your hands on every release you wanted and some you didn't even know you wanted, all that work will be worth it. You are the champion.
Even more casual RSD attendees can find something to get excited about, from the huge list of special releases to the hundreds of used LPs hitting the bins just for that day. Read on for more information on the ten-year anniversary of the biggest day of the year.
Coincidentally, it'll also be my one year anniversary at Harvest. It has been an honor and a pleasure writing you these goofy emails every other week, and I sincerely hope you enjoy them.
Grab your lawn chairs and your snuggies, and stretch out your hamstrings. I'll see you there.
Artwork by Kerry Burke
kerry burke
We've had a last minute change in our art show schedule, and we're excited to announce that we'll have work by Kerry Burke on display for the rest of the month of April. Big thanks to Kerry for hanging her show at the last minute. Kerry is best known as the owner and artist at Heart of Gold Body Arts in Hendersonville. Her collection of large abstract paintings combines starkly contrasted black and white shapes with more subtle color and lines that you have to see up close to fully appreciate. I hope you'll all stop by before the end of the month to see her work.
"Kerry apprenticed under Award Winning, Denver Tattoo Artist, Missy Rhysing in 2010. Upon completion of her apprenticeship she quickly began developing a style influenced by traditional Tibetan imagery, neo-tribal and heavy black-work artists. Today, Kerry focuses on botanical illustration and vintage etching styled design and is inspired artistically by her clients. She enjoys the intimacy of the tattoo experience between client and tattooer and is a full time artist and owner of Heart of Gold Body Arts."
You can see more of Kerry's tattoo work here.
 Record Store Day 2017
record store day releases
This is just a small selection of some of the best exclusive releases we'll have on Saturday, including albums from The War on Drugs, Grateful Dead, the Cure, David Bowie, Thelonius Monk, Townes Van Zandt, The Black Angels, The Beatles, Prince, Run the Jewels, and others.
We're just days away from one of our biggest events of the year- Record Store Day. Get here early if you want to witness or be part of the mad rush when we open the doors. Last year we had people lining up at 10 pm the night before! We're opening at 10 AM, and everything is first come, first served. But even if you can't get here that early, you can still pick up some great records until 8 PM. Not only are there hundreds of exclusive Record Store Day releases, we're also holding back hundreds of great used CDs and LPs until that day. On top of all that, all used items are 10% off, including turntables, speakers, and other stereo gear. We'll have a DJ set by Lance from Dust to Digital at 4 pm, so bring your dancing shoes with you. On top of all that, we'll have raffles, prizes, Record Store Day goodie bags for the first to arrive, and maybe some other surprises too.
Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more information on how to enter.
the black angels
Saturday, April 29
"Since forming in Austin in 2004, The Black Angels have become standard-bearers for modern psych-rock, and the New York Times has said they “play psychedelic rock as if the 1960s never ended, and they are absolute masters of it”. The band has toured with Queens of the Stone Age, Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Black Keys + more, and played festivals such as Glastonbury, Fuji Rock, Primavera, Harvest Fest, Coachella and Bonnaroo. Two of the band members co-founded Levitation Festival (formerly Austin Psych Fest) in 2008, which has since grown into one of the best-reviewed and expertly-curated festivals in the country (returning in 2018)."

"Born and raised New Yorker Jeffrey Lewis is a comic book artist and indie-rock musician, treading in the musical realms of Yo La Tengo/Jonathan Richman/Velvet Underground. Beginning with homemade cassettes in the late 90s, and moving on to touring the world and releasing 'proper' albums on Rough Trade Records since 2001, Jeffrey's career has included sharing bills and tours with the likes of The Vaselines, The Fall, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Roky Erickson, The Mountain Goats, Daniel Johnston, Devo, Pulp and many other luminaries. In between his contemplative folk narratives and garage indie-punk songs Jeffrey is known for including illustrated songs in concert, sometimes covering historical topics or strange flights of fancy. Current band incarnation Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts features Mem Pahl on bass and Brent Cole on drums. Rough Trade Records has released the seventh Jeffrey Lewis album, Manhattan, mixed by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., War on Drugs), widely acclaimed as the best Jeffrey Lewis album to date; Jeffrey has self-published twelve issues of his comic book series Fuff, and Jeffrey's writing, illustrations, comic books and music have been featured by The New York Times, NPR and The History Channel (among other places)."

"Dawes' fifth album has the true — but still unsettling — title We're All Gonna Die. It represents a change in sound courtesy of producer Blake Mills, who recently got kudos for producing Alabama Shakes' latest album, Sound & Color, and who was also Goldsmith's high-school bandmate. More touches of keyboards and more space are part of the band's new approach."
