Nature's Air Conditioning
FROM WILMA: Beginning in 1990 and continuing for almost 25 years, The Town of Weaverville had a very active Tree Board. As a result of the Tree Board’s influence, hundreds of trees were planted around town. Once a year a special tree planting ceremony was held and it became tradition to sing “Trees for America” at the event.

“Plant a tree for your tomorrow

It’s your tree that clears the air
Plant a tree for all the world to share
Grow a shady place to rest in
Make a place for birds to sing
Plant a forest for the future
Plant a tree, trees for America
Plant a tree today for all the world to share”
Excerpt from John Denver’s song, “Trees for America”

Aside from the aesthetic benefits of beauty and wildlife habitats, trees improve air quality, protect water, and save energy. Deciduous trees planted on the west side of a structure provide cooling in summer, and warmth from the sun’s rays in winter.
