Indoor Ambulance
Abbe Kahm, our STEMS Coordinator, Mickey Forness of SWREMSCO and I visited Monroe Community College to see their indoor ambulance training module. MCC uses the mock indoor ambulance to train EMS students. MCC instructors said students quickly learn that providing emergency medical care within the confines of an ambulance is extremely difficult. We’re hoping to add an indoor-ambulance to our new EMS training facility. Former STEMS Program Assistant Josh Henneman was our guide. Josh, a former member of the Kinney Hose Company in Westons Mills, is the EMS Technical Assistant at MCC’s Public Safety Training Facility. We were very impressed with the ambulance training module and how MCC has set up their EMS training.
UPMC Chautauqua WCA SAFE
I’m very excited to report that the sexual assault forensic examiner (SAFE) program at UPMC Chautauqua WCA is producing a SAFE video for law enforcement officers. Emergency Department Nurse Manager Emelia Lindquist Harley said the video is needed because of an usually high number of new officers joining law enforcement agencies in Chautauqua County. The video will give an overview of the history of the SAFE program, what the role of a SAFE provider is, what the role of a victim advocate is and counseling services available to sexual assault survivors through the program. I want to thank Emelia and UPMC Chautauqua WCA for all their efforts to ensure members of law enforcement are educated about the SAFE program. For more information, please visit the SAFE page of our website.
