Olean SAFE Meeting
I’d like to welcome Dr. Jeff Myers, DO, the new Medical Director of Emergency Services at Olean General Hospital and Sandra Watkins, RN, the new Director of Emergency Services at OGH, to our Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner team. They attended their first SAFE case review meeting earlier this week and are fully supporting the program at the hospital. OGH SAFE Program Director Denise O’Neil shared that the hospital has added the SAFE documentation to the hospital’s new patient electronic medical record system. This will make it more efficient for SAFE providers to record patient data and ensure law enforcement and advocates are called in to assist the victim. The SAFE team at Olean General is also considering producing a SAFE orientation video similar to the one being produced by the SAFE team at WCA Hospital. We also discussed doing additional community outreach for the SAFE program throughout our catchment area. Please visit the SAFE Program page of our website for more information.
EMS Skills/Collaborative Protocols
Once again this year, we’ve been hosting EMS Skills Fairs to help regional EMS providers meet their annual skills requirements. These Skills Fairs allow EMS providers to have their skills evaluated and verified by a WREMAC-approved EMS evaluator. I’m happy to report that the system we’ve put in place over the last several years is working. Each year EMS providers are required to submit their annual skills sheets to STEMS no later than June 30. Annual EMS skills evaluations are required for EMS providers to maintain their credentialing and continue providing emergency medical care to our communities. We’ve also pushed out the new EMS Collaborative Protocols. All EMS providers need to be in compliance with the new protocol by July 1, 2017, in order to maintain their online privileges. Please visit Collaborative Protocol Rollout for more information on the steps EMS providers need to take to comply with the protocol change and testing requirements. If you have any questions about the new protocols or EMS Skills evaluations, please contact Abbe, the STEMS Program Coordinator, at or at (716) 372-0614.
