Buddy’s First Visit
Our STEMS Coordinator Abbe helped out with the “Buddy’s First Visit” program at Olean General Hospital Thursday. The program introduces elementary school students to the Emergency Room and how doctors, EMTs and nurses treat children who are brought to the ER. The goal is to assuage the children’s fear of the hospital, should they ever become ill or injured and are brought to the ER. Elementary students from the Olean School District participated in the event Thursday. Abbe, EMTs from Trans Am and the city of Olean Fire Department and ER staff demonstrated typical emergency room procedures — like taking blood pressures and listening to hearts and lungs through a stethoscope — on stuffed animals to show the children it doesn’t hurt. I want to thank Olean General Hospital for inviting us to participate in this wonderful program.
Prevention Education Outreach
Our Prevention Specialist Jeff Ciminesi has been very busy with educational outreach for our programs. Jeff led a train-the-trainer class for the Chautauqua County Department of Health Maternal and Infant Health Program on infant safe sleep practices. He also attended the Hope and Healing Chautauqua County Conference on opioid addiction and addiction resources and a health fair at Pine Valley Middle/High School in South Dayton. He ran our information table at the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day too and developed hands-on safe/unsafe interactive games for children and child safety surveys for parents. I want to thank Jeff for all his hard work and everything he’s doing to promote community health and safety.
