Yoga Basics
It's not too late to sign up for this basic yoga class--the last one before our summer hiatus. It's a six-week session with classes on the following dates at 1:00 pm: Tuesday, May 30, Thursday, June 8, Tuesdays, June 13, 20, and 27, and Thursday, July 6. The total cost for the session is $35.00. Please bring a yoga mat; a yoga blanket is helpful, although not required. This program is a Library partnership with Bernardsville Recreation. Japan & Its Prints in the 20th Century
Thursday, June 1 at 7:00 pm
Tom Silver, a Japanese print enthusiast who developed an interest in this art while searching for an unusual gift for his wife, will present a comprehensive look at the Japanese “New Prints” movement in the first half of the 20th century. Discussion will focus on the great artists and their times, and how this new movement largely rescued the Japanese print tradition from oblivion. There will be examples of stunning landscape, kabuki actor, flower and bird, and portrait prints. Free. Advance sign-up is requested. Click here to sign up.
15th Annual Seniors' Day
Friday, June 2 at 10:00 am
Join us for a free continental breakfast and music by Ken Salvo’s Banjo Ragtimers Dixieland Jazz Trio. The band has been a major force on the Dixieland jazz circuit in Northern and Central New Jersey for the last 40 years. Founded in 1979 by banjoist Ken Salvo, a Basking Ridge resident, the band remains one of the most innovative groups in traditional New Orleans style jazz. Yes! “The Saints Go Marching In” is their most requested song! They’ll also do some favorite sing-along songs, and will have you tappin’ your toes to their beat. Join us to discuss "Infidel" (2007) by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The book is the story of Ali’s coming of age—how a bright little girl evolves out of dutiful obedience to become an outspoken pioneering freedom fighter. Poetry Reading by Wanda Praisner

Wanda Praisner, winner of the 2017 New Jersey Poets Prize, will read poems from her latest book, Natirar. Build A Better World: Summer Reading
Early Bird Registration Opens June 19
Early Bird Registration for our Build a Better World Summer Reading Program opens Monday, June 19th. Those who register between June 19th and 24th will receive a free ice pop. Registration continues throughout the summer. Children and teens (ages birth-17 years old) are encouraged to participate. Brochures with a complete schedule will be available soon.
Pickets, Patriotism, War Service & Women's Suffrage

Living History Presenter Carol Simon Levin portrays Jeannette Rankin, America’s first female member of Congress, in a show which tells the intertwined stories of women’s war service, suffrage activism, and the political calculus that finally brought the support of President Wilson, the U.S. Congress, and state legislatures to achieve passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. Community Service for Teens in June
Summer Reading Training- First date: June 22 at 7:00 pm

Get a head start on your community service hours for next year! Become a summer volunteer at the library. Help children track their reading hours, hand out prizes, assist with programs, set up and clean up programs, prepare crafts, and shelve library materials as needed. 
To participate, teens must attend one of the half-hour training sessions listed below and then they'll be offered community service opportunities that work with their own schedules. [All application materials will be provided at the training sessions.]

Memoirs & Coffee

The book under discussion this month is "My Father's Fortune: A Life" (2010) by Michael Frayn. In this book, Frayn, also the author of "Noises Off," sets out to rediscover the shadowy landscape of the past from which his family emerged before all trace of it finally disappears beyond recall. As he tries to see it through the eyes his parents and the others who shaped his life, he comes to realize how little he ever knew or understood about them. Throughout this workshop series, Professional Inspirer Andrea Mastrobattista will help you uncover what makes you unique and then cultivate those talents and skills so that you are making YOUR difference every day. While you might see your differences as flaws or weaknesses, the truth is you can make them your greatest strengths. Says Ms. Mastrobattista, “Do we really have to try to conform to other people’s unrealistic expectations to get what we want in life? NO! The Contemporary Art Group is a nonprofit, collegial organization of working artists who meet on a regular basis at The Watchung Arts Center and exhibit their work together. CAG is a supportive group where there is mutual respect among members, where members exchange ideas, provide information about exhibit opportunities, and share their own artistic development.
