Be Not Afraid - or how I realized that God does not punish

Be not Afraid
Or how I realized That God does not punish

My first experience of my root spiritual teacher Hilda Charlton was in June 1983, and although that was her last open meeting for the summer I dove head-first into the spiritual world surrounding her.  Ginny, the massage therapist who told me about Hilda, told me about smaller meditation groups led by Hilda’s students and I started going to Wednesday meditations with David Pomerantz in a room at Carnegie Hall.

David took us through many processes which helped me let go of fears and attachments.  In my daily life I was also letting go and finding my way.

I found an apartment across the street from the bass player who headed the band I worked with in Brooklyn.  He lived in Fort Greene which at the time was a drug infested neighborhood.  The rent was affordable and I finally had my own NYC apartment.

One day I was walking down the street where I lived feeling fearful and anxious, and realized I had a fear that God was going to punish me.  I had been experiencing the Love of God in the classes I had been taking and at that moment I had to make a decision about what reality I was subscribing to.  Thinking about the beautiful experiences I’d been having in meditation classes I determined “God does not punish!”  The energy of joy which hit me in that moment compelled me to start running in celebration.

In my view, we humans have a tendency to punish and judge ourselves and therefore others, and this has nothing to do with the constant love of God which is available to us if we only allow it in.

Thank you for your support of this music!
I wish you

Much Love and Many Blessings,
Richard
