Scared? Angry? Anxious? You Aren't Alone
Health care activism can take any number of shapes. Last week, #ADAPTandRESIST advocates with disabilities staged a die-in at U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's office to protest the recently released details of the updated health care bill (a bill that targets Medicaid, PrEP, LGBTQ Americans, and many more). Tomorrow, WNCAP is partnering with harm reduction advocates The Steady Collective to dispense life-saving supplies and provide free, rapid HIV testing for National HIV Testing Day. And today, we fight with love for the millions who will lose coverage if this health care bill passes Senate.

Whether or not the ACA gets repealed and Medicaid gutted will be determined in the next week based on the
votes of a handful of Senators in six states.
Another way of saying the same thing is: Whether or not millions lost their health coverage, PLHIV die and the epidemic explodes will be determined in the next week based on the votes of a handful of Senators in six states.

We'll hear from those directly affected by this legislation, have music from David LaMotte, and Jasmine Beach-Ferrara of Campaign for Southern Equality will send us off with action steps.

The 23 million are workers, retirees, veterans, people with disabilities and chronic illness like HIV/AIDS, children, women, and ME. And possibly you. Join us.

"7 Things Your HIV Tester Wants You To Know"
An estimated 62% of U.S. adults have never been tested for HIV, but it’s quick and easy, and it’s the first real step towards self-empowerment. We also know, as people who have all sat opposite an HIV tester at some point in our lives, how big and scary those three little letters can feel. So let’s break down the stigma around HIV testing. We asked a WNCAP Prevention Specialist:

"Tackling the Opioid Crisis and its Ripple Effects"
WNCAP's Michael Harney is on a mission, and this is an issue near and dear to us. According to North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, 4 people die every day in the state from an overdose. Earlier this month, Stein visited western North Carolina for an opioid crisis roundtable. Michael Harney brought over 20 years of experience with him to the table. Blue Ridge Public Radio covered the story.
