Alki UCC Weekly Messenger July 7, 2017
From the Board of Directors
On Tuesday, July 4th, the Director of Alki Kid's Place resigned, effective immediately, and has created a new summer program at a different location. That afternoon, the families and staff were informed of the new location and have moved also.

This is a delicate situation, and we’ll be letting the congregation know more as we feel able to do so. The most helpful thing you can do right now is hold your church leaders in prayer as we take the necessary steps to deal with this matter.
This Sunday, July 9, 10:00 am
“Bless to Me.”
The tradition of “blessing prayers” has endured through the centuries among the Celtic people of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. These blessings reveal a sense of the holy in every moment, in every thing, and in every person.

This is a way of life – observing and celebrating, blessing and being blessed by the ordinary objects, moments and encounters in life. Inspired by this tradition of Celtic Christianity, and featuring some of the blessing poems and prayers of Beth Richardson, J. Phillip Newell and others, we will spend the next four Sundays in July steeping in the blessings that surround us.

This Sunday we will also celebrate communion, and for the musical offering Marshan will sing the song The Blessing, written by Graham and Downes, and made popular by Celtic Woman.
Summer Food Drive Challenge
to Benefit the West Seattle Food Bank
Thanks for your starter donations ... but we have a long way to go filling that barrel!

For many children in our community and across the US, summer is the hungriest time of year. Our most vulnerable
kids lose access to school feeding programs and food donations dwindle.

Last summer, Alki UCC joined with Admiral & Fauntleroy churches in a friendly competition to collect at least 1,000 lbs each.

This year, we're upping the donations challenge to 2,500 lbs.. Let's fill up that barrel!

Mary's Place, a day shelter for women, has opened a new center in White Center, next to the White Center Food Bank.

Let's come together to provide a summer meal for the residents, and explore more volunteer opportunities when at the facility.

Please contact either Cinda Stenger: or Sandy Johnson if you are interested in putting together a fun meal. A summer BBQ would be grand!
