Collaborative Protocols Booklets
Through a generous donation by the Southwestern Regional EMS Council, we were able to purchase 500 handbooks outlining the 2017 NYS EMS Collaborative Protocols. Our STEMS program is in the process of distributing the handbooks to the 92 EMS agencies we serve in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. The new protocols went into effect on July 1. Please visit Collaborative Protocol Rollout for more information on the steps EMS providers need to take to comply with the protocol. If you have any questions about the new protocols, please contact STEMS Program Coordinator Abbe Kahm, at stems@sthcs.org or at (716) 372-0614.
USDA Distance Learning Grant
I’m very happy to report that we’ve submitted an application for the USDA’s Rural Utility Service Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant opportunity. This funding will enable us to build a state-of-the-art distance learning lab at our new building and link it to other regional distance learning facilities. The goal is to enhance educational and certification opportunities for EMS providers, medical professionals and other professionals in our twin tiers region. Planning for this grant application began more than a year ago. I want to thank the members of our Board of Directors and our partner agencies for helping us develop this application.
