|CAREX ‘Ice Dance’ & Evercolor® ‘Everest’|
$8.39 – 1 gal.
PERENNIAL. Carex (sedge) is striking when grouped as a “groundcover” in shady areas or as a lovely accent in containers. In the landscape, Carex brightens and adds texture and color to your shade garden. ‘Ice dance’ is spreading and hardy in Zones 3-8. Evercolor® ‘Everest’ has tidy, mounding foliage and is hardy in Zones 5-10. Carex is mostly evergreen and is best planted in part sun to full shade in average to moist soils.
One simple & elegant container recipe: Plant a boxwood in the middle of the large pot and surround with variegated carex. In the landscape, plant carex in front of groups of deep green evergreens (like Japanese holly or yew) for a simple, beautiful addition to your garden. Deer resistant. Cut to the ground in early spring for fresh growth. While supplies last thru Thursday, August 10.
|FROM WILMA: Our staff spotlight this week is on Tanya LaCorte. If you have shopped for perennials at the Garden Center, you likely have met Tanya. With an eye for interesting displays, enthusiasm for plants, and charming Irish accent, she is an inspiration when choosing plants.|
Tanya is a native of County Down, Ireland and has fond memories of being with her grandparents on their farm. She says she even liked to pull weeds! She and a friend came to America on a whim where she worked in New York City. She married and moved to Pennsylvania and owned a dressmaking shop. She closed the shop when she had young children and began gardening at her home.
After moving to Weaverville, she continued to enjoy gardening and increasing her knowledge of plants. She likes to use dwarf conifers with different colors and textures as well as groundcovers like mixed sedums and thymes. Her favorite perennials change seasonally but at this time are Rudbeckia ‘Goldstrum’; Echinacea ‘Ruby Star’, ‘Hot Papaya’, & ‘Pica Bella’; Eupatorium ‘First Frost’; and Iris ensata ‘Variegata’ (beautiful foliage!).
Tanya has the stamina of the Energizer Bunny, is an avid runner, and has been on two treks to the Himalayas. Tanya makes regular trips back to Ireland to visit her parents. She also makes delicious Irish shortbread which she shares with us!
