STOPP Update
Our Southern Tier Overdose Prevention Program (STOPP) continues to grow. Our Prevention Coordinator Jeff Ciminesi recently conducted Narcan trainings with the Ischua and Dayton Fire Departments and at the Allegany and Cattaraugus locations of Seneca Strong. The Seneca Strong Program uses peer advocates to engage those struggling with addiction to break the cycle of addiction. Since 2015, STOPP has trained 1,364 people in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties to recognize and reverse an opioid overdose by administering intranasal naloxone. We have distributed 1,340 intranasal naloxone kits to EMS providers, health service providers, and friends and family members of those who are at risk of opioid overdose. Additionally, The Cattaraugus County Heroin/Opioid Task Force and STOPP has created a new website of local resources designed to help those who are dealing with opioid addiction. The website has information about the new Cattaraugus County Addiction Helpline, listings of resources for treatment and recovery, links regarding Narcan training, a map of regional safe drug disposal locations and links to primary prevention resources. Miles for Mercy Flight
I want to remind everyone that there is still time to register for the Miles for Mercy Flight 5K Run/Walk which will begin today at 6 p.m. at the Mercy Flight hangar. Registration is $15 and begins today at 5 p.m. at the Mercy Flight hangar off Oviatt Street. All proceeds will benefit Mercy Flight. Race participants will receive a swag bag with goodies and the race course includes water stations and food for participants at the end of the race. The race begins at Mercy Flight in Olean and ends at Olean’s downtown Lincoln Park. The 5K is being held as part of the first annual strOlean event to celebrate downtown Olean.
