Life is Full of Challenges

Last week I announced the opening of the registration for the 2017 Ozark Blues Society Blues Challenge. If you are considering entering or know an act who is considering it, please direct them to the article below or to our website ozarkbluessociety.org for full information.

This past week was challenging for me on a personal level.  What was supposed to be a low-key week to catch up before school starts fell to pieces when my oldest daughter was at ground zero in last Sunday's Tulsa F2 tornado. She was at work as a night baker when they got hit. A blessing she walked away physically unscathed from a building that is now condemned. And since she rotates to the various locations she still has a job. Her beloved Ford Ranger, unfortunately was not so lucky (her coworkers car is pancaked under building front on the other side of her truck.)  We learned that stuff is stuff but it still hurts...especially when looters steal your license plate and pilfer your vehicle. Disaster recovery has a lot of moving pieces and we found many helpful and caring folks. A super shout out to Tulsa's Fox23 as their reporters JJ Burton and Preston Jones went above
and beyond to help us.
So back to the more fun stuff...always remember you can drop me a note and
let me know of upcoming shows and events as well as ideas of what you would like to see in this Newsletter.

Ozark Blues Society
Blues Challenge
This regional competition is run under the umbrella of our affiliate status with the Blues Foundation. OBS uses the same format and scoring used at the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis in January. If you are a blues band or a solo or duo blues act living within 250 miles of Bentonville Arkansas and would like to compete in the IBC in January, this regional contest is a first step to make that happen. Only winners from the various regional competitions may go on to the semi-finals in Memphis.
Read on below or visit our website for all the information

The regional competitions are held by blues societies affiliated with the foundation and are open to all blues acts within a 250 mile radius of each affiliate.

You have to open your mind. I like the ability to express myself in a deep way. It's the closest music to our humanity - it's like a folk music that rises up out of a culture.

This Week's Quote

"I was extremely fortunate to live around the corner from a recording studio and to be chosen to have a paper route to make enough money to pay for the music lessons. I was one of the chosen few to have a job and to walk through the curtain at Stax Records was just an amazing thing for me to do at age 14."
